Matty Smith (Teen Titans Go!, Liquid Bread) joins the 'boys for an extra-long episode to discuss Snyder's pretzels and Zack Snyder's Justice League.

The Snyder's Cut with Matty Smith

Comments

I love how mad people get. Its a movie right? I happen to think marvel movies are so much better than this, but enjoyed them talking about this movie. I loved this episode 5000.

Benjamin Johnson

Snyder's handling of the DCEU is paint by feces: it's messy, sometimes corny, and all looks like shit.

Sean Sakimae

"one HUNDRED percent!" (Wiger voice)

Sean Sakimae

Insane that they all gave this 5 out 5. They glossed over so many issues with the movie and the DCEU.

Thom van Tijn

The Snyder Cut was definitely better, but it still wasn't good in a lot of ways. I think there are definitely some decent criticisms you can give Marvel movies, but they also need to respect how they managed to build a coherent cinematic universe with relatively well fleshed out characters that the audience generally cares about. They also really glossed over a lot of the issues with the whole DCEU and how they chose to portray their main heroes (Batman and Superman).

Thom van Tijn

Yeah, I think Wiger really exaggerated how much snark and meta-humor there is in the MCU too. There are plenty of examples of those movies taking themselves seriously.

Thom van Tijn

It’s ok to admit the scene just sucks shit, my guy.

CMatt

I live 20min from Snyder’s and UTZ!

Kyle Welker

And Leto Joker was terrible. I feel like they're trying to convince themselves that they enjoyed his performance.

Stephen Navarrete

Let’s see that wound pic!

Emily Carroll

I guess that's the stage of discorse we have arrived at.

Steve S.

I think they mostly just appreciated that the Snyder Cut made the movie actually make sense. It's still was a chore to watch with not much more payoff.

Stephen Navarrete

The most baffling part was Mitch defending Man of Steel as a good movie. It's utter dogshit.

Stephen Navarrete

Much like the final Season of GoT, they hamstrung themselves by having so few episodes which means the conflicts are a bit more forced and don't work as well when you think about it. It also makes the table setting obvious. I just had beef with the way Mitch expressed it like he 'didn't understand' even though the message is not subtle.

Jerry Li

Yeah I tried to watch it and just thought it was ugly and boring. Maybe I’m missing something but these super positive takes just feel contrarian to me

James Phillips

yah they have doodoo taste in movies. Snyder Cut v.2 is less shitty than the orig but still pretty terrible. And Mitch's hatred of Marvel movies is absurd.

ChickenPaddy

These kind of episodes are so much better for my waistline even if I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m sure this has been discussed before but whenever they do a classic food episode I can’t help but roll into the drive thru as I listen. More pilot program and whatever this is!

Tansu Philip

It sure was satisfying to hear someone complain about that ham-fisted bank loan scene in Falcon. A second look could’ve scored disnee those points without making zero sense.

CMatt

I also read comics my entire life and this movie is awful. It's so silly to say experience reading comics equates to some kind of "correct" opinion on a comic-based film.

kevtron

One thing is for sure, Mitch and Wiger’s taste in movies is whack.

Brendan Livingston

Release the Wiger cut!

Cliffie Mathieson

I would not call GotG, Ragnarok, and Black Panther paint by numbers. Even Winter Soldier does something comparatively different. But otherwise Marvel by large have a template they follow so while a lot of those movies are good, have that homogeneous feel. The Snyder movies are definitely not as paint by numbers but is both super dumb and stands out in comparison for better or worse. I'm not a fan but at least you can say 'oh this is a Snyder one'.

Jerry Li

Aside from being a veteran soldier which should've at least given him support, the show unintentionally revealed that Avengers is basically treated him and everyone else as paid interns. But him knowing people with money isn't the same. That's like saying Mitch and Nick know celebrities who are if not close to being millionaires. But that wouldn't entitle you to a loan. Here it is made harder because of the blip policies (which honestly is only handwaved but not too well thought out). My point stands. It was a clumsy way to create that conflict and theme, but Mitch saying 'I don't get why...' is kind of obtuse.

Jerry Li

Fair!

Mauricio Diocis

MCU movies are extremely pedestrian and paint by numbers but MoS and Blade are both better than this as far as superhero movies go imo

G

everyone knows what they were going for, it’s still absurd that a world famous celebrity with access to millions of dollars in collateral would be denied a bank loan lol

G

Best superhero movie. I read comics my entire life and this feeds that. Everyone else is smooth galaxy marvel brains.

Mauricio Diocis

Winger: the extended edition of Return of the King isn’t too long!! u monster!!!! how could you say such a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G

Chapo, Red Letter Media and now the Boys all got something out of this movie and it's making me think I'm on crazy pills.

Steve S.

Great episode - so happy you all liked the Snyder Cut. It's refreshing to hear people say positive things about the Snyder DC films, which in my opinion are critiqued to death. The point raised about the earnestness within Snyder films, and how the MCU films have a snark defense mechanism built-in was spot on.

ah

Snyder Cut is better than the theatrical release, simply by virtue of being a coherent movie. But saying it's "in the conversation" for best superhero movie of all time is utterly bananas. It's fine, I'm glad the director got his vision out there, I still don't like his tortured take on the characters. Happily moving on to whatever's next. :) (P.S. If Doughboys ever pivots to movie reviews full time, just go ahead and double my Patreon sub. Can't get enough.)

Peep

(only about 25 min in) and I wonder if the **SPOILER** initial reactions are because of a lack of new content available. Obviously everyone is different and we all have differing tastes, but to call this movie anything better than mediocre feels like more of a WANT for it to be good/better. Whedon's version stripped away too much of the fat and this version has way too much. They both tell the same story (cover the same beats), only this version takes 2hrs longer to do so. I will always wonder how well this would have done in theaters given its r-rating and torture-esque runtime. It seems the perfect storm of events to get this made and I'm happy for the Snyder Cult that will like EVERYTHING he does b/c they conflate "dark/gritty" with being unique, (This didn't even beat first week viewership compared to WW84) but Snyder has shown that he writes a movie and uses DC characters to fit the story, rather than write the story FOR the characters.

Sean Sakimae

Mitch is out of his damn mind.

Brandon Cardenas

If we go by the Harley Quinn animated series, those 2 should clearly get a room.

Jerry Li

It’s weird that Batman dreams about the Joker offering to jerk him off

Mike Cooper

Pre listen thoughts: If Wiger does not go into Cyborg having a robotic hog, I'm going to be disappointed

Matthew Koslow

Poor innocent Mitch, couldn’t have known that the Arclight wasn’t long for this world

John

I feel you guys are too generous about them straight up killing people. WW84 happens before this and that ended in a (clumsy) positive note. So why is she so kill happy? It also doesn't sit well when there are a few Ayn Rand references. I will say as an absolutely dumb movie it is enjoyable as a comedy. Like Darkseid getting his ass kicked and retreating in the 1st half of the movie. Way to intro your bug bad. Oh and Steppenwolf being essentially a sad middle management guy is very very funny to me. Mitch, while the bank scene in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was clumsily done, I feel it is disingenuous to say why Sam didn't get the loan; especially next episode where Sam and Bucky get stopped by the police and they only question Sam. Its not subtle, but it shouldn't have to be spelled out for you to get what they are going for.
