On Patreon’s Proposed Change to Pledge Fees

Patreon recently announced plans to change their existing fee system, where processing fees are paid by creators (e.g. us), to one where those fees are paid by patrons (e.g. you) -- adding a surcharge of 2.9% plus $0.35 for each subscriber.
Aside from upending Patreon’s straightforward, pay-what-you-see pricing structure, this decision disproportionately affects smaller, indie creators, who rely on low dollar donations.
While Patreon is attempting to frame this change as beneficial to us, we join the overwhelming consensus of creators who oppose this decision.

2017-12-11 08:18:57 +0000 UTCI’ll miss the double while I pull my support from Patreon 😥 I support too many creators at low, but regular amounts for this to be sustainable, so I need Patreon to feel it too. Let me know if you guys explore alternatives. There are blockchain strategies being worked on that cut out the middlemen.

I've tried to support the handful of other podcasts I listen to who are also on Patreon, but I've never stuck with any past a month because they often seem like a money grab. (Plus you are the only podcast I listen to who has even addressed this situation.) Love you guys and will support your extra content wherever you go.
