tSoB GUI // MANTIS GUI
Added 2025-11-23 16:30:02 +0000 UTC
Guys I am currently making some very good renders in terms of the futuristic/dystopian/cyberpunk genre, I've especially improved my low light skills. I am currently collecting stuff left and right for more futuristic dystopian fun, and next I will try animations, so today I have brought a question with me.
Since I think we are getting close to a new game I have to set on the resolution, that is why I want to ask you guys what you think is more exciting for you. Is it the usual visual novel layout that femdom city used (complete screen usage with a transparent text box at the bottom)?
Or is it the box GUI (GUI means Graphical User Interface btw) from shadow over blackmore (retro interface with static GUI plus buttons and solid textbox on the right)?
Don't think about what might or might not be easier for me, just think about what you liked more in terms of the layout! Both options can have the same functionality and quality! Let me know in the comments if you have additional thoughts.
Hope you have a nice sunday, where I am at it is freezing cold right now so I hope you stay warm...
...and kinky! :)

yeah the scenes would be in a wide format. for some scenes that is definitely better, since you can have a wider angle. other scenes however benefit from a smaller frame window

2025-11-29 20:05:49 +0000 UTCit is not impossible, but the textbox would stay on the right, which would be a bit weird

2025-11-25 11:16:13 +0000 UTCMy personal favorite is Blackmore. While reading the text and interacting with the characters, I prefer to see the whole picture/animation. Sometimes the text is overlaying something what I would like to see while communicating with the persons.

2025-11-25 07:56:59 +0000 UTCi don't think there is anything to worry about when voting personal preference on the Game User Interface ;)

2025-11-24 10:59:49 +0000 UTCI knew immediately that I belong to the minority again because I'm almost always in the minority with my opinion when it comes to vote for something. But actually I'm even glad about it. I would only be worried once I'd belong to the majority.

2025-11-24 09:37:53 +0000 UTCnow that you say it, it is a good point. i think none of the other adult games has that kind of layout for a visual novel game

2025-11-24 00:18:01 +0000 UTCi am not entirely sure if i will go full futuristic cyberpunk or a bit 80s synth retro cyberpunk. both have valid arguments
Darktoz
2025-11-24 00:16:37 +0000 UTCi honestly don't really know what i like more, myself. for blackmore i feel like it was the right choice
Darktoz
2025-11-24 00:15:10 +0000 UTCi think in terms of difficulty they are both the same, there is not much difference
Darktoz
2025-11-24 00:14:17 +0000 UTCin general or the user interface only as well?
Darktoz
2025-11-24 00:12:31 +0000 UTCI preferred Blackmore

2025-11-23 21:52:41 +0000 UTCMaybe it’s more a decision which is easier and allows you to create the feel for the game you want. Love what you posted, and now I’m curious what you will come up with

2025-11-23 18:47:39 +0000 UTCThe Blackmore Box GUI styles gives your game(s) a much more unique style that makes it stand out from other visual novel games. Additionally, from what I have seen with the other layout (complete screen usage with a transparent text box at the bottom) there is the possibility that navigating/finding the Save, Load, and Preferences, etc. features can become far more difficult though this is depending on the lighting and colors used. There is also the possibility that full text box may cover parts of the visuals.

2025-11-23 18:22:11 +0000 UTCPersonally, I prefer the Mantis one because it takes up less screen space and the Cyberpunk aesthetic is going to be more noticeable. Also, the Blackmore GUI seems more magical and old-fashioned, like a game from the '90s, the complete opposite of the futuristic, modern feel that a Cyberpunk world is trying to achieve 🙂.

2025-11-23 18:20:12 +0000 UTCBlackmore works far better as it gives your games a visual identity. As well as that it allows the full screen to be used to show what is happening where with a standard visual novel you would be worried about loosing visual of some things due to the text boxes.

2025-11-23 17:17:06 +0000 UTCyes maybe it does not matter that much if visuals are fitting

2025-11-23 16:57:03 +0000 UTCBoth are good, they give a different feeling and identity to the game, either is fine. My preference is really slight and based more on familiarity. If it's closer than 66/33, just do what is easier for you since your time and effort saving is important to us because we care, but also because it helps feed into new content.
