In certain individuals I've encountered over the years (some in my previous line of work in prisons, but some in very ordinary contexts) there is a certain look in the eyes which is often only visible in flashes for a split second but if you catch it is extremely chilling. It triggers a gut feeling which I can't even put into words. But if I was to try, it's that you're looking at someone who has either experienced some form of true evil and/or is capable and has perpetrated such evil. In some of the more ordinary contexts I've seen this look, at a later point something has come to light about the person in question. I couldn't agree more that eyes are the window to the soul.
