Thank you for 2024 and Happy New Year from the Juice Media

Dear Patrons of the Juice Media

We hope you're spending some quality time with your family and friends over the festive season. And that you had a groovy Christmas, if you celebrate it.

Thank you for supporting our work in 2024.

This year we covered the widest range of issues ever: from Myanmar to Japan; AI killer robots and the global state of democracy; from enviornment, whitsleblower and FOI laws, to the US (sigh) election... And received takedown notices from the governments of India and Tasmania.

All that, despite this being a hell of a year for me: Mum passed away in March, I underwent ankle surgery in May, had to rescue my dad from hospital in Italy in July. But we kept up regular production and I'm proud that we didn't miss a beat. And that's because we never take your support for granted.

We are currently taking a break in December. Normally we take January as our month off, but given the next Australian federal election will be announced as early as Feb or March, we decided to take December off and be ready to roll into action in January 2025.

This is a crucial election. So, as always, we'll be working hard to help inform voters about the key issues so they can make better informed choices on voting day. Speaking of which...

Which issues would you like to see us cover during the election season? (Let us know in the comments!)

And fear not, international Patrons: after the Aussie election, we will return to covering international/global issues, too.

And yes, I have collected some choice bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage to share with you from the past year of production. But given that we'll be making an end of Season 3 video after the election, in just a few months, I'll save them for then!

For now, we just want to express our gratitude to all of you for supporting our work here on Patreon. Especially those who have been with us long-term (some of you for 9 years!). Thank you.

We'll catch you in January with our next Honest Government Ad!

Until then, from all of us here at the Juice Media, we wish you a resftul holiday season with as little shitfuckery as possible

Giordano, Lucy, Zoë, Ellen, Luca and Juno xo

It's 2025 and the ALP has returned to its 'core-value' of competing with LNP to get fossil-fuel donations while climate disasters ravage our planet - any scope for satire there Giordano? :) One thing that has actually improved though in past decade or so is the price of renewables so it would be great if you do a HGA on this. Perhaps you could explain to the 4 million+ solar households why their government pushes to keep expensive gas in the grid while refusing to invest in storage for their ultra-cheap solar to use outside daylight hours.

With Trump's announcement of all those punitive tariffs on Chinese and NAFTA products, how bout something on the fallout 40 years of economic "turbocharging" and global market fetishism? A peg to hang it on? Inequality. Around March last year, The Guardian published a piece saying that since 2020, the world's five richest men had doubled their net worth. The Trump "policy" (🤣) marks a pivotal point, the moment the West starts trying to shove the neoliberal and globalisation cats back into the bag. I'm sure they'd appreciate a good luck message from Zoe and Ellen.

Hi Douglas, it's a good question. We keep hearing it's been tough for incumbent governments around the world... but I think you've put you finger on the underlying problem, that in times of trouble, we are conditioned to think in binary terms (good/bad, red/blue, left/right) and to vote accordingly... It's something I'd love to explore in a video someday (see my reply to LLW below!)

thejuicemedia

Thanks Jon!

Yeah, February 23rd. A federal election was due in September anyways, but looking at some of the Landtagswahlen (state elections) in the past year... it's a dreadful thought what might happen. To be fair, after they have been the junior partner in every government from 1969 to 1998 (and then for the second or third term of Merkel, and now under Scholz), The Liberals really, really deserve a break... 1% or less is my hope for them. I dread the thought, but I think we'll be getting Chancellor Merz, the bigger question is if the AfD will be part of the government, if The Left will still be in parliament and which party will be the junior partner this time around - and what concessions will be made for and by them.

Thomas 'Kranodor' Hahn

It's probably a contentious subject, I'd like to see an HGA on the influence of the church, not only as lobbyists in parliament, but also in our education system. It seems the church is gaining heft in primary health, aged care and certainly education. Seeing articles on the access of abortion in the last few months speaks to me of a blending of the church and the state. Thank you for the great work you continue to do, even when life throws things at you.

Jon Gray

Thankyou Kary, you've articulated so well about how I (and I think plenty more) feel about the climate crisis and how allowing new coal and gas is just insane and how counter productive that is to the massive challenges we face because of decades of pisspoor bugger all action (and the low bar set thanks to the LNP) on the climate crisis. I appreciate you understanding my sentiment. Another climate election. Get ready Labor.

LLW

Agree with plenty that you've said there LLW. I criticise our current government because they can and should (and promised) to do better. They just aren't because now they have the lobbyists and special interest groups at their door who seek to undermine evidence based policies. Also, yes, this is still a climate election. We are doing better on climate but it was a super low bar to begin with. We cannot fight climate change while still expanding and opening new fossil fuels and allowing logging of native forests and habitat destruction. Doesn't make sense.

Kary

Many thanks for your marvelous team and the marvelous content they share with us. After you get through your "rush to Aus. election" items, could you look generally around the world to address the widespread sentiment that we in Canada are facing now, and that I see in other countries around the world... Here, "Whatever you don't like is Trudeau's fault! So kick out the governing party, without knowing how we, the opposition parties plan to do any better, because we won't discuss our platform, won't attend 'all parties debates' and advertise three-word slogans heavily, all in the Verb-The-Noun format." It looks like a campaign format designed by a primitive AI engine. What do you suppose is really going on?

Douglas DeLaMatter

Thank you Dave, likewise 💛

thejuicemedia

No I hadn't caught the Gina promo, thanks for the link Peter !

thejuicemedia

Thank you LLW, that's a good suggestion...under a two-party system we're conditioned to always think in terms of simple binary opposites... it's relevant also to many other countries/governments and something I've been meaning to explore in a video. So thanks for the suggestion!

thejuicemedia

Thanks Riebeck, good thoughts there

thejuicemedia

And to you, Anthony - thank you 💛

thejuicemedia

You're welcome Adolfo, thank you for the support we truly appreciate it!

thejuicemedia

Thanks Martin! Appreciate the update on Germany's shotgun election. Yikes

thejuicemedia

Thanks Edward! I think you're probably right! 😄

thejuicemedia

Thanks Mark! Happy new year 💛

thejuicemedia

Thank you Mark! 💛

I hope not, for all your sakes, and the rest of the western world. This global trend towards extreme authoritarian right is really alarming. I know the human species has to die off somehow, but I assumed it would be climate change that took us out, not allowing the world's billionaires to starve or bomb the rest of us out.

Kylie Prestridge

With heartfelt thanks to the entire Juice Media, I hope you've had some genuine holiday cheer. You have helped me stay slightly sane in this handbasket, but only slightly as I know where it's heading.

Mark D Larsen

Thank you! Beautiful pictures that make us see true beauty, love! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Nice photos Giordano - is the caption for the third photo 'Cool and normal' by any chance? 😄 Enjoy your break guys and catch you in the new year! 🥳

The "elected" politician is just for show, in many cases, to pretend we have a democratic process. The bureaucracy really runs the state, they run the show and remain there, moving from one politician to the next. Politicians act on "staff recommendations," which occur at every government level – local, county, state, federal, and international at the United Nations. We must prohibit career politicians. Our government office holders, at every level, should be selected from a qualified pool of citizens by lottery. The *Laws* they enact should be ratified by a super majority of Citizens who are qualified to hold public office.

Oliver Solo

Happy holidays to all from Germany 🇩🇪! Over here we are preparing for a surprise shotgun general election in... er... February I think. The Liberals walked away from the coalition government and here we are. I just hope the extreme right won't get the relative majority of the seats in the next parliament. 🙏😬🏛

Martin Linger

Thanks so much for a wonderful year of information and speaking (comedic) truth to power💪💪. There are dark time ahead as we tackle another trump term in the Whitehouse and the ever worsening global climate breakdown... But I know that you and your team will help to bring the light in these dark times, as a long time watcher and fan ,let me say happy new year and thanks, thanks a lot and I hope you guys do some more cross work with groups like Zeteo or Democracy now or TYT, we need to stand as one to face these dark times. MANY THANKS AND MUCH LOVE FROM NL. 🎉🎉⭐⭐🙏🙏

Adolfo

Enjoy the well deserved break! Best wishes for the New Year 🎉

I think the core issues stem from the fact that those in power have set up an administrative complaint handling/management process and system that is intended to protect individuals accused of abuse of power, corrupt conduct and misconduct from being investigated. This process, which is used by all in power, means that accountability is absent, allowing bullies and abusers to operate with impunity and without question or challenge. Over the past twenty years, I have conducted an in-depth examination of this system, drawing from my personal experiences, and I possess the evidence necessary to expose it for what it is and that is a conspiracy to cover up and protect bullies and abusers. It is crucial to expose these matters, as the current situation continues, and nothing changes, due to the lack of investigation. No investigation means nobody is found guilty, which by law means they are presumed innocent - case closed.

Jolanda

Of course ‘It’s the environment, stupid” - aided and abetted by compulsory consumerism.

Michael McGrath

I think cost of living and housing and just inescapable issues for the election. But both labor and liberal and national fail the change hoped after the last federal election. We see multinational corporations that have caused the inflation crisis and have mega profits, 1 in 3 pay no tax. We give billions of dollars to the rich and Wealthy that feeds the housing crisis and there has been no one taken accountability, faced a fine, fired or faced any discipline. While people lost so much of their livelihoods to an illegal and unlawful debt collection program where the onus of proof was reversed. People are really hurt, dissolutioned and losing faith in democracy and government, that it can actually solve any of the problems we can face. And what these people are looking for isn't a policy solution but restoring their trust which is a much harder thing to do. Sorry to sound so down, but I am very optimistic things don't have to be this way and we aren't alone in this feeling. Change won't happen overnight but starting at voting for not shit candidates is a start

Riebeck

Talking about Project Gina, did you catch the leaked(?) filming/promo from Gina's Mining Conference in November? Link if you haven't: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EONkqkZ7k8 This is the most vomit and rage inducing thing I've seen this year.

Peter Todd

Dear Juice Media Family, Thankyou so much for your HGA's (local and global are unbelievably important). I am grateful for your examination of both. You are some of the most humble and grateful humans and while I have breath in my lungs and even a few dollars per month to spare, I know I will support you and your work and I hope there are many others who feel the same as I do. I support your work to remain hopeful about Australia and the world. My request for HGA coverage going into the 2025 election is try and breakdown the shitfuckery that by criticising the Labor govt, that somehow equals that we must want Dutton to win. We can and should demand better of our government, especially when it comes to our health system & the climate crisis (and if you can manage it - some addt shitfuckery exposure on the housing crisis) and maybe some huge exposure for Independents, Socialists and the Greens as Not Shit Candidates who are prepared to stand up against Labor & LibNats. Sorry ... my electoral wishlist is huge ... I really just feel like Australia needs a win (not just a slightly less sht government.) We, and the world, deserve better. The climate clock is ticking and there is a lot of work to be done for the billions of humans who need that change.

LLW

While the RShits’ Project 2025 is a 180-day plan, I am using 100 days from the USA inauguration to assess how badly we are doing as a country, as a liberal democracy. 100 days from 20 January is 30 April. I am heartened by the RShit buffoonery we are witnessing. If they are stupid enough to cause US debt to default their corporate backers may wake up. I will be watching for Rs to shift to Independents. Alaska RShit Senator Lisa Murkowski has hinted that she might well be ready. It will only take a few House and Senate members to shift both to D control. At the beginning of a new year, I always listen to The Counting Crows: A Long December: “A long December and there’s reason to believe, “Maybe this year (2025) will be better than the last!” BoLo for Oligarch Elon Muskratshitfuckery in Australia. The MuskRat has started mucking with Germany & Great Britain.

Jason Orcamoon

Thanks Bec! And yes, Dutton's nuclear plans and Projeft Gina are high up on our list for election coverage, so thanks for letting me know you'd like to see this covered by us!

thejuicemedia

Lies and hate stoking on one side (Dutton) and limp dick integrity on the other. And the disgraceful way our government has folded to the Israeli lobby. (An episode about the Israeli lobby would be awesome - a global phenomenon.) And how antisemitism is a performative contradiction. Racism is racism, but there is an exclusive form of racism that is more important than any other form of racism, which only amplifies the racist response. Or in other words, supremacy rules in racism as the indigenous population struggle against systemic racism. Thanks for your great work. It matters.

Christine McDougall

Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for your efforts throughout the year. I think one of the biggest issues for our upcoming federal election is the debate over nuclear power. Dutton (the Dud Spud) is obsessed with it, and I'd love to hear your take on that. Given the recent media focus on the US healthcare system, a look at the policies for Medicare that our parties (especially the dominant two) are bringing to the election will be even more important than ever. No sane person wants us to go down the same path as the US, but some people are more selfish than sane. I've no doubt that whichever aspects you focus on, you'll do it brilliantly, and I look forward to seeing your videos again in the new year. For now, enjoy your break, you deserve it.

Bec Smith

Thanks for all your hard work Juice Media team! I hope you and your loved ones all have a peaceful, healthy and happy 2025.

As we Yankees progress into the next phase of our demise, satire might be the only tool we have to possibly survive. Thank you for your creativity.
