So for my traditional works, I use a 48 pack of Prismacolor Premiere pencils, a 30 pack of Caran D'ache Fancolor watercolor pencils, a 72 pack of Arteza Professional watercolor pencils, and today, my new set arrived. I got a 24 pack of Faber Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils. I also got 14 additional colors, 2 of which being duplicates from the 24 pack since I need them.
Why did I get this? I wanted to give these a try, and perhaps use them in commission work, or even making original copies of art to sell and send by mail once I figure out how to make that work. These pencils have better lightfastness ratings than any of the sets I currently have, so I'm certain these will last me much longer. Ultimately, I wanted to try out a new brand and hopefully have a more professional brand of pencils for paid content.
As for my first impressions, these are better than Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils, hands down. Not to say the Prismacolors are bad, but the lead on those pencils, as well as they go down on paper, they just break constantly. I've had a few of the pencils nearly get halfway gone before I finally got some lead that didn't break or fall off. When that's not an issue, I guess wax bloom is another issue, but personally, I haven't really had that issue.
On the other hand, these Polychromos are nice! They blended really well together, and when layering them, that's pretty good too!
I Kinda have little to say overall, so the piece I made was of Tiana from Disney's the Princess and the Frog. This was the picture because I set up an app called Jazza's Arty Games. I made a randomized idea generator with 120 different characters and 16 different inflation types, and what popped up was Tiana with supersized full body inflation.
In the future I'm adding more characters to the list so that there are countless possibilities for each new sketch.
