Ang Lee also directed Sense and Sensibility, a great movie starring Emma Thompson & Hugh Grant; Emma Thompson also wrote it and she won the academy award for best adapted screenplay. She is the only person ever to have won Oscars for both writing and acting.

The box office attendant had to warn all ticket-buyers that it was a subtitled film, as people were requesting refunds when they discovered it was in a foreign language. It was a critical and word-of-mouth hit and one of the first foreign films to crossover into the US mainstream, where it also became the first foreign-language film to cross $100 million in US ticket sales.
