THE EDGE (1997) - Full Watch Along

Well the title fits since I was definitely on the edge of my seat for The Edge. Great performances from Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin and especially from Bart the Bear! No surprise he was my favourite!!! Reaction highlights on YouTube Monday January 12th. 🖤

This was filmed in my backyard! Banff and Kananaskis... God's Country! Oh... Coby... you chicks always make me laugh! 100 men killed... barely bat an eye, but trap a squirrel to survive... "How dare you!" 🤣🤣🤣

It took me a little work to find this, but I remembered watching it a while ago: Dr. Chris Raynor, Canadian Orthopedic Surgeon's YT channel "This Is Why We Don't Fu*k With Bears | Surgeon Explains Apex Predator Attacks" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNbupDzUBJA

I was so happy to see that you had reacted to this. I've been asking for it forever. I love brown bears, and I've been a fan of Bart and Bart 2, who are the two bears that, if you've seen any movies with brown bears in them in the last 40 years, it's most likely been one of the others. Here's a little bit about Bart the Bear and Bart 2, and some of the movies they have been in: https://bartthebear.com/bears/bart-the-bear-2/#:~:text=Every%20bit%20as%20talented%20and,Outdoors%20and%20Without%20A%20Paddle. Speaking of which, I think you would like Legends of the Fall, and An Unfinished Life.

Cash the mini bear, had other priorities.

Coby, I know you are against reacting to documentaries because you don't think there are enough dialog-free segments for you to effectively make your own comments. But since you enjoyed the bear footage in this movie so much, "Grizzly Man" (2005) might be worth breaking your guidelines for. It is pretty fascinating.

A lesser known GREAT Anthony Hopkins movie is “Worlds Fastest Indian”, a true story from New Zealand about Burt Munro who took his old Indian motorcycle to the Bonneville Salt Flats to try to set a land speed record. The story is of his journey to get to Utah. VERY charming and a feel good story

Bart the Bear was in at least 14 movies (what an awesome actor😉) but this was at the tail end of his career. He was in “Legends of the Fall”, an amazing film with Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt as well.

I’ve always been a fan of this movie Coby. It’s just so well done. Anthony Hopkins is of course one of my all time favorites. Another amazing performance from him. No surprise.there. So well written, and suspenseful. Intensity off the charts. So heartbreaking, as well. The plane crash was so well executed, and yes, the bear was amazing. I didn’t know you were going to react to this one, so it was a pleasant surprise. Thank you. Oh, and I also really like Cliffhanger, which I think you might have mentioned before. It’s almost too bad you’ve already seen it. I would have loved a reaction to it. This was cool. Hope you have a great week.

Why do large predators like humans: - no claws, no fangs, no tusks, no horns, no antlers, no hooves, no fur, no shell, no spines or spikes, and slow to run away. Just soft and tasty all the way through. Yummy. :)

To answer your question about bears: Brown, grizzly, and "Kodiak" bears are all varieties of the same "Brown Bear" species: - Inland Grizzly Bears have individual home territories or ranges that are not on the coast. They have a diet of more roots, berries, insects, and grubs and less fish and animal protein, but they do still eat fish and animals that they can catch, including deer, elk, and moose as well as smaller game. They will take domesticated sheep and cows (especially calves), and will steal/scavenge kills of larger animals made by wolves, such as bison, elk, and moose. They are the smallest of the brown bears at 300-500 lbs, but still larger than the largest black bears. - Coastal Brown Bears have home territories that give them access to the coast. They have a higher percentage of animal protein from fish and coastal aquatic mammals, including elephant seals, and are often 500-800+ lbs. - Island Brown Bears (aka Kodiak Bears) live on islands off of the coast of Alaska and Canada. The most famous are those is Kodiak Island, but there are other islands also. These have the highest percentage of animal protein in their diet and are the largest of the brown bears. big males can be 1000-1500 lbs. - While they may look big and clumsy, even the largest have sprint speeds of over 30 mph (50kph) for several minutes, with the smaller ones able to sustain that for longer times. - Brown Bears generally follow Bergman's Law: those from higher latitudes (farther north) and farther west tend to be larger, and those from southern and eastern populations tend to be smaller. - Siberian brown bears are genetically the same species as North American brown bears, and have the same inland, coastal and island varieties, but are darker in color, some of the coastal ones being very dark blackish-brown. Those of the Kamchatka Peninsula on the Pacific coast have high protein diets and are equivalent to North American Kodiak or Island Bears. Siberian brown bears also follow Bergman's Law, with Western Inland Siberian Grizzly Bears being larger than Eastern Siberian Grizzly Bears. - A number of Pizzly and Grolar Bears have been confirmed in northern Alaska, Yukon, and Nunavut through genetic analysis of blood samples in the last 20+ years. A Pizzly is the offspring of a polar bear male and a brown/grizzly female. These tend to be larger than other local brown or grizzly bears and have much lighter blonde fur. Grolar bears are similarly the offspring of a male brown/grizzly and a female polar bear, and appear to be a creamy colored polar bear. As all bears are raised by their mother, Pizzlys act like brown/grizzly bears and have similar coastal brown or inland grizzly diets, depending on their individual home range, while grolars act like polar bears and have high protein diets rich in seals, walrus, etc..
