LA FEMME NIKITA (1990) - Full Watch Along

This. Was. Awesome. No, I’m not watching The Fifth Element - but I wore my Leeloo wig in honor of the director Luc Besson and, just as I thought I would, absolutely loved this movie. 🧡 Reaction highlights up on YouTube next Wednesday November 19th! 🖤

I'm glad I had the day off to catch up on the movies I missed last month. This is a movie I've never even heard of before.

Coby is a genius. I saw that this was dropping today on YT. Then I saw that I would have to wait until 7pm. NAW,…Hell Naw. I can’t wait all F’ing day. So, now I’m team Coby. BTW: so many edits on this version; but I’m glad that it still “plays”.

This was my request! :-D I'm so glad that you liked it, Coby! In addition to the stylish visuals and the amazing performances, I love the soundtrack! It sets the tone perfectly! I loved that you recognized Jean Reno's name in the credits and it was fun watching your excitement when you realized who was coming up in the elevator. :-) This was 4 years before "Leon: The Professional", so obviously Luc Besson knew that he would be perfect to play a hitman in that later movie. When the movie was being filmed, Anne Parillaud (Nikita) was 29 or 30 years old (as compared to the 24 years old Nikita was at the end of the movie). Tchéky Karyo (Bob) was 6½ years older than her. (He died just last month at the age of 72.) I never got the impression that Nikita had any significant romantic interest in Bob. He was obviously attracted to her (any man would be), but I think she just thought of him as a friend. Then again, perhaps the fact that Marco tore up the note that she left for Bob indicates that there was more fondness there than I realized. Incidentally, perhaps the word you were trying to think of instead of "mission" or "job" was "assignment". I was surprised that you noticed the Sid Vicious poster on the wall in her room. Have you seen the movie "Sid and Nancy"? It's about the chaotic relationship between Sid Vicious and his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. Gary Oldman plays Sid Vicious and is absolutely amazing in the role! I'm always amazed at how Gary Oldman can convincingly play characters that are 100% different from any other character he has played. For example, Zorg in "The Fifth Element", Stansfield in "Leon: The Professional", Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula", and Rosencrantz in "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead". I'm guessing that "Sid and Nancy" probably wouldn't work very well with YouTube's annoying algorithm, but be sure to check it out on your own if you have an interest in The Sex Pistols. Lastly, I'm looking forward to seeing some vacation snapshots of your eventual trip to Venice! :-)

The large pistol that Bob gives Nikita in the restaurant is a Desert Eagle. Originally made by IMI, it is also made under license in the US by Magnum Research in Minnesota. It is available in 3 chamberings: .357 magnum, .44 magnum, and .50 Action Express. based on the number of rounds that Nikita fired before reloading in the kitchen, this one is .50 AE. In real life, it is an awkward cannon, but Hollywood likes it. It is the same as the pistols carried by Deadpool, by Peacemaker in "The Suicide Squad", and by Arnold in "Last Action Hero". The rifle that Nikita assembles in the bathroom in Venice is the "Universal Army Rifle" (AUG) by the Austrian company Steyr. This is another one that Hollywood likes and uses in a lot of movies because of the plastic chassis, futuristic styling, and bullpup configuration.
