A PLACE IN THE SUN (1951) - Full Watch Along

When you watched this months ago, I somehow missed it, so I went back and watched it today. I knew they were going to find him guilty, and I do believe he is guilty of letting her die. I don't think he physically did anything to her, but he also didn't try to save her. Does that make one guilty of murder? That is the question.

Coby, I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Your reaction was so good. Although, when you found out for sure that Alice was pregnant, I couldn't help but think that accusing pointing finger was aimed at me!! Lol I left this next thought on the Youtube video, but I feel like its worth repeating (because sometimes pre-published videos lose comments). The big deep thought that this movie leaves us with, and its one that I find fascinating... Is the THOUGHT of murder alone enough to sentence someone to death? I mean, I'm of the camp that he really didn't kill her, and that he let her die instead which is horrifying enough... But does the mere entertainment of the thought of murder, and an inaction which results in a death... Does that necessitate a life for a life? I don't know... Also, George Eastman telling Angela to 'Love me for the time I have left and then forget me' is honestly pretty heartbreaking. He did everything to be with Angela, and when it all crashes down... He wants her to forget him so that she can live a happy life of her own. Regardless of his flaws... George and Angela's love was the real deal, but is also one that will never be realized.

So, I already shared this with you on Patreon last night Coby, but for anyone else interested... Here is the TRUE story of how a young Elizabeth Taylor saved Montgomery Clift's life... On May 12, 1956, Montgomery Clift was leaving a dinner party at Elizabeth Taylor's house in Beverly Hills. He was driving home when he crashed his car into a telephone pole. Kevin McCarthy, a friend of Clift's who had been driving behind him, ran back to Taylor's house to get help. Despite being advised not to go, Elizabeth raced to the scene of the accident. She found Clift pinned under the dashboard, and pulled him out. She could see he was choking, and he was gesturing at his mouth. She reached into his mouth and pulled out several broken teeth that were lodged in his throat, preventing him from suffocating. By this time, reporters and photographers arrived at the scene, trying to get photos. Taylor refused to let them get close to Montgomery Clift. In fact, she threatened them, saying "I know every one of you. If you so much as take 1 picture of my friend... You will NEVER take another picture of me for the rest of your lives. Monty is my friend, and I will NOT let you take advantage of him." As the story goes, the reporters backed off, and no pictures ever surfaced of Montgomery's mangled face. Unfortunately, the accident had a profound and tragic impact, leading to an addiction to pain killers and an early death. However, in the 10 years that Clift had left after the wreck, they remained the very best of friends, with Clift always crediting her with saving his life. Taylor, later in life, referred to him as her 'brother' and her best friend.
