THE DEER HUNTER (1978) - Full Watch Along

Well it’s not really your warm and fuzzy feel good movie, but what a MASTERPIECE…! So heavy, so intense, but so incredible. Reaction highlights to be released on YouTube tomorrow for my birthday June 20! 🖤

THE DEER HUNTER (1978) - Full Watch Along

I wanted to watch this movie so bad a child but my parents wouldn't let me. In the end I managed to watch it on my own when I left for the Navy at 19. This movie is raw and haunting. Only other film that hits the same way for me is Apocalypse Now.

Hi Coby. I was very moved by this movie. I thought I had seen it before. But I actually hadn’t. Another amazing performance by DeNiro. He might be my favorite actor. I hope you had a great birthday.

Happy Birthday :); Great watch along, I felt your emotions and it reminded me the first time I saw this movie. When it came out I was a US Army soldier, 20 years old and stationed out of the country. I didn't see it when it first came out although everyone in the platoon was talking about it. Unfortunately everyone was talking about for the most ominous reason. A fellow soldier not in my platoon so I didn't know him, but in another platoon in the company started playing Russian Roulette and killed himself. I felt sad even though I did not know him and I just did not understand why a young person like myself at the time would want to do something so risky from watching a movie. I assume he had other stressors in his life besides being in the military far from home etc. I finally watched the movie a couple years later. I trained with older soldiers who were Vietnam Veterans, but I never knew any who were POW's. Movies like this and Uncommon Valor really tried to focus on the plight of POW's. Boy did watching it with you bring back some memories that were long buried and i thought forgotten.

Sad note is that The Deer Hunter was released after John Cazale passed away. He wanted to complete his role in The Deer Hunter and passed away not long after filming.

Coby, first hope you have a great birthday, second, The Deer Hunter is one of my top ten greatest movies list. Was great watching your reaction to this great, tense, sad, but amazing movie. I thought it would be a hard one to watch on a birthday. I think you watched it a few days before correct?
