Penelope is a book-lover and strict librarian, with little patience for visitors that disturb her guests' pursuits for higher knowledge. However, one visitor today has a plan of his own, and Penelope isn't going to let him get what he wants so easily. In her attempts to protect her library and it's guests, Penelope is going to end up giving up a lot of herself and taking on some brand new interests...

Strange. I feel both pity and contempt for the narcissistic protagonist. She begins and ends the story with equal amounts of agency. The only distinction is that she moves from opposing gendered social standards to serving gendered social standards. Compliant or defiant, she exists in either end of a binary she cannot conceptualize.
