Princess Daphne model sheet

My first attempt at a proper model sheet, I'm looking at making one like the studio versions, unfortunately, I can't find any construction sheets of her, just general reference. So I'm basing it on John Pomeroy's online sketches / Bluth Studios and working out the details...

Anyway, using the head as the reference, helps to establish the proportions of the depicted figure, after that, I start looking at lines of action, symmetry, and weight distribution, for example, ensuring that the centre of gravity is positioned correctly under the head / neck axis...

A great question, Andrew! When I start looking at a character, I always start by deciding how many "heads" they are, this leads to an interesting dilemma that I've noted between the drawings of Daphne by Don Bluth versus the recent ones done by John Pomeroy. In short, they don't match, lol. I get 7 heads tall for Daphne, that is including the 3D model from the game but I just watched John sketch Daphne out on his Instagram and he was depicting her at 5 1/2 heads tall. As well, unless it's been squirrelled away somewhere, I can't find any construction sheet of her, as mentioned, it's just general poses, etc. To prepare for this, I just posted the one that I did of Aphrodite from Disney's "Hercules the Animated Series".

Excellent work! Let me ask you a question: How do you handle character proportions? My character proportions skills are terrible, no matter how much I study the character shapes. I'm thinking that maybe tracing over the character's outlines and filling the shapes may help, but that would be cheating.
