Part 47: Editing video + thoughts on future of Project L's video

Looking through all the few clips of material that I shot with my 1D X, it’s coming more obvious and obvious that I’ll absolutely have to use it in the future; the clips are just so much higher quality. Sure, there’ll always be use for Sony’s action camera for candid shots, ongoing video and so on, but 1D X’s built-in video is just so much better.

I’ve been looking into getting a better rig to help stabilize the shots, but with little results; the decent ones seem to cost a fortune (around euros) and the cheaper ones just seem too weak to put ten thousand euros worth of camera equipment on. With the same price I could purchase a proper image-stabilized lens such as Canon’s 24-70mm f/4L IS, even though I’ve got the 24-70mm f/2.8L II – a lens that doesn’t have image stabilization. But I’m starting to think that it would be worth it.

What I’m asking for are your opinions; Would more video be able to push Project L further? And how could I produce such video the way of Project L’s spirit so that the videos won’t just be a regular “ooh looky, a girl in catsuit” presentation, but moreover a narrative piece with some kind of a meaning.

Of course, while at it, I must always think of the monetary side. Would that be beneficial? Youtube's potential is truly great, but is it that great for presenting latex clothing? Sure, I've got over 2,000 subscribers, but is that enough to push the upcoming videos to new levels?

Lately I've been thinking, and I'm now 100 % sure I want to do this for living. This is already the best hobby in the world, especially as currently I'm gaining more money than I'm losing – and that's extremely rare, and I'm so very, very thankful to you all for supporting Project L.

Besides that, there's another question; What more could I offer to Patrons that could increase one's pledge and perhaps gain more Patrons? Should I offer bigger prints or something beyond that? If so, what?

It’s always difficult, if not impossible, to predict what exactly can viralize a phenomenon on the internet – especially with such a loaded theme that latex clothing is. By loaded I mean that “latex” as a term is so often connected to sexualized content that it’s very difficult to do what other viral creators do, to obtain sponsorship deals that pay the bills. Of course, I’ve gotten help from Latex by Tiina Rikala, Libidex, the mysterious and very generous donator Paul and – naturally – from you, my dear Patrons, but it’s not exactly the same matter. I am extremely thankful to all aforementioned, of course – and to everybody else who has supported me, including the (by far) volunteer models. According to my studies in journalism and quite a few lectures, one million Youtube views approximates as $1,000 gross value. So practically I would have to get hundreds of thousands of active subscribers and viewers to be profitable from Youtube. Luckily Patreon can and will lessen the need for video viewcount – but then again, when comes the point that I could without any doubt charge my Patrons from a mostly video-based Project L itself? Or could I perhaps do that already? I want to be absolutely open and fair to my Patrons, and I only want to charge from the content that I deem worth it. I love photography and it’d be wonderful to continue only by doing it – but the harsh reality is, that when dealing with such a niche thing as non-pornographic latex is, one needs to provide plenty of high-quality content on different platforms to be able to sustain oneself in the monetary sense. I don’t think that’s problem by any standards to me, but I still wonder whether it could be the main thing to guarantee my livelihood.

I think in the second paragraph you wanted to insert a price, right? :-) Sadly I can't tell you if more videos would push Project L further but I personally would love to see more videos! Not just BTS (btw I love BTS footage!) but also more pieces on their own. I think you should give it a try. And I think it would be best if you present things or choose topics you and your models care about. Things you do, things you love, things you're interested in. Or maybe something about Finland and it's culture? That would be very interesting and also in the spirit of Project L, "regular everyday stuff" but in latex and presented in a nice way. And thus awesome! :-)
