Great reaction. Maverick and Penny were together before the events of the first movie; her name is mentioned twice in the original film. RIP Val Kilmer (1959 – 2025). Val Kilmer was very ill while filming Top Gun: Maverick. He had lost his ability to speak due to throat cancer treatment and a subsequent tracheotomy. To address this, artificial intelligence was used to regenerate his voice for the film.
