Behind The Spotlight Chapter 16

Making a movie was not simple. Preparing for a movie was also not simple.

Before a movie could even happen, it needed a concept and ideas. In short, it needed a script.

Most of the time, a production studio would hire a group of writers and a scriptwriter to lead the creation of the plot. Because Wyatt was the only head of this script-making, they didn't have anyone to polish or edit it... They were keeping their expenses small to make sure that they had enough for the filming. They didn't hire writers.

Aside from the script, a storyboard was also a must. A storyboard was the vision of the scenes. Think of it as a comic or illustrations, but for the purpose of making a movie. It needed to be in order or sequence that matched the plot to make it easy to understand.

Wyatt graduated from a filming school so he knew how to make a story. Directors participate in storyboard creation since they were the ones who envisioned the film.

As for Wyatt's storyboard... His drawing was average, but it showed a clear understanding of what to film, so it was passable. Wyatt actually spent most of his days polishing the drawings to make them concise with the vision he had for the movie.

Once a script and storyboard were done, it needed investment or funding to make the movie. Wyatt and Collin already did that part... This was usually the toughest part because money was not easy to acquire.

Once these two were done, the pre-production would start. This stage consisted of scheduling, casting, hiring crew, location scouting, set/background design, and costume and props designs.

At the moment, Wyatt was at this stage.

Being known as the guy who could fill jobs fast and reliably, Collin already found crew members for Wyatt. In just a matter of a week, all of the essential roles in filmmaking were filled.

Assistant Director.

Director Of Photography.

Camera Operator.

Head of the Lighting Team/Department.

Props Master.

Costume Designer.

Set/Background Decorator.

Most of the essential roles were filled and they were hired in cheap salaries. These people can back their jobs but they just couldn't find jobs in Hollywood.

Collin said to Wyatt that he should take care of these people because they could become his team if he wanted to become a director.

As for hiring a Producer and Executive Producer, they had a hard time finding one because of a simple reason... Nobody was confident in handling a project directed by a fresh graduate.

Collin knew a couple of Producers and Executive Producers, but none of them expressed the intention of handling the project.

Since Collin didn't have a choice, he decided to take the position even though he had no experience. He would realize later on that hiring workers and handling workers were too different things.

Aside from hiring crew members, they also have another step in pre-production. It was hiring a cast. A group of actors and actresses who would become the face of this movie.

Kazir already secured two of the roles for his clients. He talked to Wyatt about it and the guy didn't have a problem. In a way, Wyatt understood that he was helping Collin and his clients by casting them in his movies. Just like them, Wyatt was also Collin's client after all. They should help each other, right?

However, before officially hiring the two, Wyatt had to test their acting capabilities. If they failed in that, Wyatt only had to say sorry.

"They have been in Hollywood long before I became an agent, they know how to act."

Collin said to Wyatt.

They were in a small room where ten people could fit in. Aside from them, Gerald, the Casting Director, and Anthony, the Assistant Director, were also present.

This small room that Collin rented for a week would become their audition room... They have to improvise.

The door opened, and the first person to audition was Axel Gunner; he was going to audition for the role of Sam, one of the two lead roles in The Accidental Wedding Crashers.

"Hello, I'm Axel Gunner. I'm going to audition for the role of Sam Bee."

Wyatt never met Collin's two clients. This was the first time he met Axel.

Wyatt's first impression of the guy was that he was huge!

Collin, the agent next to Wyatt was already 6'2 feet. But Axel was around 6'7 feet! He was tall.

Furthermore, he looked tough and strong. He had firm muscles, and almost every part of his body was oozing with testosterone.

Axel had dark brown eyes, had and army-cut hair, and his posture seemed like he went to the military.

However, when the audition officially started, Wyatt was surprised that Axel changed his demeanor.

The scene he performed was the part where Sam had to make a wedding speech while slightly drunk. To make matters worse, Sam was not even the groom's friend. He was just a wedding crasher!

"I... Uh... Have you seen a person deep-diving into a frozen lake and getting his head slammed against the ice? Well, my friend... Uh, the person who's going to get married did that when we were 15... He was on crack when he did that and he started laughing when he realized that his nose was bleeding."

Axel looked like he had drank a couple of shots of tequila as he slurred while speaking.

Wyatt looked at Collin and nodded, indicating that Axel passed the audition. There was no reason to find another actor to take the lead role.

Now that one of the lead roles was taken, they had to look for the actor who would take the mantle of Jess Dee.
