Behind The Spotlight Chapter 4

Evelyn gave the paper plates filled with cut fruits to Wyatt and Collin. The young assistant director thanked the old woman before talking to Collin.

For some reason, Collin was staring hard at him. To be precise, he was staring above his head as if there was something above him.

"Is there something wrong, Collin?"

"N- No, I'm just thinking about some work-related stuff."

Collin couldn't say that golden words were floating above Wyatt's head. That would be weird.

He tried to rub his eyes, he thought he was just hallucinating. But the words were still there.

'What does this mean?' He asked himself.

Wyatt Bray:

-- Talented at writing Comedy scripts.

-- Talented at filming Comedy movies.

The golden words expressed that Wyatt's forte was comedy movies instead of horror movies.

When Collin was first introduced to Wyatt, he watched his experimental film and concluded that Wyatt could be a director. It depends on luck, opportunity, and connections if Wyatt becomes famous.

But being a talent agent, it was Collin's job to open job opportunities and social connections to Wyatt.

In the end, the biggest factor was luck. In this industry, even though luck was a concept easy to understand yet hard to accomplish, luck was considered heaven-sent.

But what about talented people?

'There are endless amounts of talented people who remained unknown despite working hard.'

He knew some actors who were hardworking but failed to become a famous personality.

'But why... Why is it golden? Why are the words floating above Wyatt's head golden... No, the first thing I should ask is why I am seeing golden words about Wyatt's head. Oh God, am I really crazy? Did I lose my sanity because of overworking?'

Collin decided to throw away these thoughts... Or else he might overthink.

"Wyatt, you said that you're not confident if Director Esteban will make you a permanent assistant or not... Then, are you interested in making your first film?"

"My debut movie?" Wyatt was confused.

"That's right. We can turn your script into a movie."

"But Collin... Isn't it expensive to film a movie?"

"It depends. In my opinion, we can make this movie with a budget of $100 thousand. But we have to be conscious of our expenses. I've been in Hollywood for three years now; I have an idea of how much budget we need."

For this project, they have to hire unknown actors and actresses so that they won't spend a lot of money. Many unknown actors and actresses were eager for exposure. They would happily perform even if they didn't have a salary.

As for the crew members... Collin believed that 10 to 20 people were enough to make the filming run.

"..." Wyatt was speechless. He was just here to show a script that he wrote for only a week, hoping that they could register it to the Writer's Guild, and perhaps make money.

He didn't expect that Collin would offer him a different job.

"I'm not sure... I'm still a new graduate, I don't know if I can handle it."

"This is your second movie and your debut movie in Hollywood. Everyone starts at something. Don't think much about it... I'm sure we can handle it."

"What about the money? In the first place, I don't know if 100 thousand dollars is enough to make the film."

"... I'll contact someone to provide investment."

"What about the production crew? Where can we find them?"

"Pftt--, Wyatt it seems that you don't understand my forte. I'm good at finding the right people."

"..."

Wyatt was hesitant. He knew that this was an opportunity that might be hard to come by.

"Wyatt, I rest the decision on you. I'm your agent and my job is to make sure that you will be a successful director. I will respect your decision no matter what."

Wyatt swallowed.

"Do you have a reason why you want me to start directing a movie?" He asked.

"Well, let's just say I have a hunch that you're great at making comedy movies."

"Collin, you're a strange person."

Collin laughed out loud.

"What do you think?"

"We will start the project once my job in Director Esteban's movie is done."

He couldn't just leave his job because he signed a contract. He couldn't afford to break the contract.

"That's great to hear."

Collin smiled and the two shook hands.
