Solanaceae: A Visual Novel – Second full day of dev!

Moving this from the old Tumblr-hosted Patreon-only blog to here. Guess I'll be posting my game dev dairies here after all, yeesh. Anyways, here's the text:

Phew! Today was a doozy but not for the exact reasons I wanted, I think, haha.

I spent a good 5-6 hours today JUST working on Sal’s bust (which I then began talking about all over social media and being like “WOW IT TOOK A LONG TIME”) but!  I don’t think that was such a bad thing, considering how much busts  literally carry any and all visual novels, they are kind of like, THE  THING y’know and I need a good base for Sal, so! I think I’m pretty  happy with it.

I need to fix some stuff with some of his eyes,  especially his base eyes. I’m just struggling to get them looking like  they are looking at other characters (Satine is having much of the same issue) but little things like that I tend to leave until the end! I’m sure Battam will have similar problems, haha.

WHAT I GOT DONE TODAY:

• Colored Map 1
• Fixed clouds on Map 1
• Re-made buttons on Map 1
• Made text bobbers, will probably update them come Update 2
• Inked and colored coven BG– kept it simple and is will be replaced with a different BG *VERY* early on in the game.
• Re-drew  Battam’s spiraling items around him in opening to better reflect the  types of magics unique to Sola’s world– instead of just generic “witch  items”, haha.
• Made a quick game-menu picture (the sparkles/purple stuff as seen above)
• Did some sprite work for Sal within the script
• DREW SAL’S BASE EVERYTHING, CODED IN HIS BASE EVERYTHING!
• Also I made some pasta for dinner

SOME NEW THINGS TO GET DONE FOR THIS UPDATE:

GENERAL:

• god fix everyone’s base fucking eyes why can’t you draw eyes?!

SATINE EDITS:

• satine needs more eyes looking down
  like eyes looking down left, looking down right, etc
• make eyes that are looking at battam and sal more? agh!
• wiggly smiling mouth
• questioning eyebrows
  open nervous mouth"fluffy" eyes
• teary gooey cartoon eyes?
• heart eyes?
• add lil tears as extra (big tears also?)
• needs a MORE NERVOUS MOUTH!
• adjust the sleeves to be less PUFFY there the
  arms are, don’t be afraid to get a bit skinny
• drool mouth
• adjust heart animation? im not sure how

SAL EDITS:

• teary gooey cartoon eyes
  lil tears as extra (big tears also)
• add a lil more to the base eyebrows (A peek of the other eyebrow)
• lidded regular eyes + blink (for horny)
• needs a PFFT mouth for laughing
• smaller smile
• “fluffy eyes”
• makes eye that are looking at battam more

FOR EVERYONE:

• sparkly evil affect (zeggy style)
  sparkle affect (impressed)
  sigh affect
  angry puff affect (disaster log c style)

And  I think that about covers it! Feeling pretty good about the direction  of the game and I plan to finish Battam’s sprite my next dev day as well  as hopefully work on some backgrounds and maybe the textbox! We’re  doing it ya’ll, we’re doing it!
