September Patreon Reward - Hollywood Lunchbox
Added 2024-09-01 15:00:12 +0000 UTCHello Patreons!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel! As September's reward, we are bringing you Hollywood Lunchbox, a collection of sandwich-style puzzles of different types. With each puzzle comes a sandwich from the world of movies or TV, and we invite you to identify those if you choose.
There are two unusual types of markings in the grids: one type is coloured cells - THESE MATTER, as they provide clues that carry forward to the next puzzle; the other type is stars - THESE DON'T MATTER as they only provide confirmation/clues for the film and TV sources of the sandwiches (and the stars are not matched to their own puzzle).
To enter the competition, please send the digits from the yellow cells in the last puzzle on this form: https://tinyurl.com/CtCLunchbox by 4pm UK time on September 20th.
Links to the puzzles appear in the pdf. Have fun!

The whole of puzzle 1 took me 100 something minutes… puzzle 2 took 43😂

2024-10-02 18:44:11 +0000 UTCI struggled to figure out this hint at first, but once I wrapped my head around it, it really helped big time, so thank you! (Only just got round to September’s edition😁)

2024-10-02 18:43:27 +0000 UTCI'm only able to solve these sandwich puzzles with BLT. (Bifurcation and Lots of Trial-and-error.)

2024-09-14 06:09:07 +0000 UTCGreat puzzles finally had time to sit down and do them. What a joy

2024-09-13 00:15:20 +0000 UTCWith the last two puzzles I ended up with matching pairs that I couldn't resolve. Everything was correct up to then according to the check.

2024-09-11 16:53:15 +0000 UTCI had a bad solution for puzzle one and was led to believe adding was the way to go. I think that is a safe assumption after trying it that way on puzzle 2. It didn't work out.
Christopher Bares
2024-09-10 01:27:10 +0000 UTCI thought that too, but I realized the clue could refer to a 2-digit number so that's what I'm assuming at the moment.

2024-09-09 23:59:36 +0000 UTCI agree. I like having a mixture of tough and not so tough puzzles, but having the hardest puzzle first and making it a requirement to complete before you can move on isn't ideal

2024-09-09 20:03:47 +0000 UTCHaving trouble with the colored cells. The colored cells provide some of the sandwich clues for the next puzzle. Do I add them together and that's the sum for the next corresponding sandwich? Are those colored cells the digits used in the next puzzle for that corresponding sandwich? I'm not sure how to translate the colored cells to the next puzzle.

2024-09-09 15:54:07 +0000 UTCpuzzle 1 is the hardest. hint placed on Discord by ctc : In rows 4/6, if there isn’t a 9 in c5, there must be a crust in c7. So in c7 the crusts are either in r1 and r6 or r4 and r9. If they were in r1/6, the effect on the crusts in c8 (in r2/3c8 and r9c8) would put crusts in r4/7c9. And now there couldn’t be a crust in c1 in any of r2/3/4/6/7/8c1, and the sandwich in c1 would be impossible.

2024-09-08 09:35:49 +0000 UTCI couldn't get through the first puzzle, and had given up on the whole thing, when I heard rumours of a hint. But I had already figured out the crusts in C7, so winning?

2024-09-07 02:38:19 +0000 UTCStuck on the first puzzle. Kinda ruins the pack when you can’t move on to any of the others

2024-09-06 04:03:18 +0000 UTCSorry, I copy pasted the wrong part of the page! It was "The World’s Greatest Sandwich"

2024-09-05 14:23:44 +0000 UTCHollywood Lunchbox is the name of the pack, not one of the sudokus :D So we don't know which one you really liked.

2024-09-05 08:28:03 +0000 UTC#2? Isn't that #3?

2024-09-05 08:26:25 +0000 UTCMany thanks for hint. Was really struggling with puzzle 1. At least I can move to the second now lol

2024-09-03 21:14:42 +0000 UTCCould you make a version of puzzles without stars and coloured cells, please? I like using colours when solving sandwich sudoku and this is not helping.
Vedran Kordić
2024-09-03 20:10:47 +0000 UTCI finished all the puzzles. A few of them had some interesting logic, especially Hollywood Lunchbox. It seemed like the puzzles in this pack were much much harder than previous months, but I did get through it.

2024-09-03 17:55:45 +0000 UTCYes, I ran into that for a while...
Matthew Buckley
2024-09-03 14:25:31 +0000 UTCColors in the grid on one puzzle are clues outside the grid on the next puzzle. As Leondu notes, not all of them are normal sandwich clues, depending on the rules of the specific puzzle, but they are the clues outside the border.
Matthew Buckley
2024-09-03 14:24:40 +0000 UTCIt is a bit obscure. I completely read over it and was stuck so long on the puzzle. 'All such sums equal to zero are given'. Since there are no sums equal to zero in the puzzle, the 1 and 9 can not be next to each other. If you miss that rule, you cannot finish the puzzle I think.

2024-09-03 14:19:42 +0000 UTCThanks, I found it in the meantime… It was tricky because the Patreon App doesn‘t ask for any of those settings. It still hasn’t worked though because the “Connect“ option keeps giving me sandclocks…

2024-09-03 10:20:48 +0000 UTCI hit enter too early. The weird ID is the patreon-chat channel on the CTC discord.

2024-09-03 10:15:32 +0000 UTCthe colored cells are not necessarily sandwich clues
Leondu
2024-09-03 06:49:33 +0000 UTCthe rules for #2 are a bit unclear or maybe it's my bad english

2024-09-02 23:58:47 +0000 UTCThank you. Sandwich is new to me and I was completely stuck.

2024-09-02 22:49:24 +0000 UTCI normally love getting stuck in to the puzzle hunt each month, but not being able to solve the first puzzle is very deflating. I don't always solve every puzzle each month, but I like to give them a crack each time. Hopefully I will have more success next month.

2024-09-02 22:04:40 +0000 UTCI am on the CTC discord, but I can‘t seem to find the Patreon channel there… how can I get access?

2024-09-02 22:02:12 +0000 UTCThank you for a wonderful set of puzzles. I was stuck for a bit with the colours, but I see the ruleset is very clear. I really liked the challenge level this month. IMHO the puzzles were progressively harder, but I can understand how some folks are stuck on #1. There are a few challenging deductions to make in each puzzle.

2024-09-02 17:45:17 +0000 UTCHappy to publish the hint here for those not on Discord: In rows 4/6, if there isn’t a 9 in c5, there must be a crust in c7. So in c7 the crusts are either in r1 and r6 or r4 and r9. If they were in r1/6, the effect on the crusts in c8 (in r2/3c8 and r9c8) would put crusts in r4/7c9. 2024-09-02 15:21:21 +0000 UTCDiscord is a free chatting application and a server is basically a community, with its own sub-channels for discussion and moderation staff, etc. There's a CtC one which features a Patreon only channel where people give friendly hints and tips all the time, I really recommend checking it out! You can get Discord on your device App Store or here: https://discord.com/download

2024-09-02 15:12:09 +0000 UTCCan someone explain to me what that means? Discord server is a new concept for me.

2024-09-02 15:07:55 +0000 UTCSee the post above - the stars don't matter at all for solving the sudoku puzzles.
Cracking The Cryptic
2024-09-02 13:51:33 +0000 UTCIt is clear that Puzzle 1 may be the hardest puzzle in the set - and accordingly we will be posting a hint around 4pm today in the patreon-chat channel on the Discord server.

2024-09-02 13:50:55 +0000 UTCThis is a MAGNIFICENT reward. A real MASTERPIECE. Thanks a million. What a ride ! 10-digit code submitted. Can't wait for the next reward. Great work !
Mario
2024-09-02 13:02:55 +0000 UTCDoes the "*" in the cells have any significance? Can't find anything in the rules about them.
Jonathan Stübner
2024-09-02 11:52:14 +0000 UTCDo i understand it right, that colored clues are sandwich clues? I can't seem to be able to understand that right now....
Sandra Bittmann
2024-09-02 11:45:39 +0000 UTCi managed to place a single digit in the first puzzle after 74 minutes. This will be a long one... but definitely enjoying it so far!!
scralt !
2024-09-02 06:18:26 +0000 UTCThank you for explaining. Red is a duplicate as well.
Darryl Gilbert
2024-09-02 02:15:05 +0000 UTCThe colors in the grids only carry over to the *sandwich clues* in the next puzzle. It's a bit of a confusing coincidence that purple was reused for 2-3 and 3-4.
Matthew Buckley
2024-09-02 02:11:00 +0000 UTCThe first puzzle is not very approachable. Seeing lots of people in the discord stuck with finding just 1 digit.
Bill Ehardt
2024-09-02 01:47:10 +0000 UTCI am not sure if it's me or what's not (probably me), but I just saw Simon's latest video, where he called this pack somewhat approachable, and at the end called the puzzle from the video (Rat Run 10) a hard one. I am struggling really hard with the first one in this pack, not been able to complete it yet, while I found that Rat puzzle of only moderate difficulty... Oh well, I'll find my way through this sooner or later (hopefully), just found it funny hearing the words approachable about something I had been struggling with for hours.
Remy Monsen
2024-09-01 22:41:30 +0000 UTCCan someone please explain the rules of the coloured cells? I thought that they were specific one or two digit numbers, which get carried to the next puzzle. In puzzle 4, purple changes digit size, and I also get conflicts between the red and green clues that I don't understand.
