Timelapse video below in the attachments!
I had fun drawing the shlbari in the last image, figured I could crack my head open for a bit, show what goes on in there when I'm drawing ropes. I'm not a shlbari hobbyist in real life so I don't actually know what the rules are, what knots are supposed to go where, etc. It's purely visual for me so I just go nuts 😂 For reference I usually just do a simple image search and browse through until something catches my eye, and even with a reference I typically improvise when I need something to fit in a specific way, or mix and match different references.
With simple straight forward knots I usually follow the reference more thorougly, use my own knot knowledge (not to brag but my scout leader hated me when we had knot days, I was that obnoxious kid who pre-learned all the knots and rubbed it into others' who were only just learning faces) and try and draw actual working rope work. But sometimes I want to get high on detail work and just scribble absolute nonsense within the ropes. I promise no one will care if the knot wouldn't be functional IRL 😂
But yeah! Ropes are fun and I'm a lousy teacher, but I hope this could be of interest💙
