Fillomino Aquarium by Phistomefel
Added 2022-01-19 15:29:54 +0000 UTCThis is one of the best puzzles I've ever seen. It's the new puzzle from Phistomefel and it's just a ridiculous creation. I spent 90 minutes last night absolutely enthralled by it and you can watch my attempt by clicking the link at the base of this message. But do give yourself a treat by having a go first!
You can play it in our software here:
https://app.crackingthecryptic.com/sudoku/2PL36JB46r
Rules: Divide the grid into regions so that no two regions with the same area share an edge. A given number indicates the area of the region it belongs to. Fill some cells with water so that the numbers outside the grid indicate the number of water cells in the respective row/column. If a cell is filled with water, all other cells within the same region that are in the same or a lower row have to be filled with water as well.
You can find an example puzzle here (as well as the option to play it in Penpa software if you prefer that):

Wow indeed, this is preposterously clever, and I found it preposterously difficult. I think solving it has had a similar effect on my brain to my head being stuck in an aqaurium for a week.

2022-01-23 04:45:37 +0000 UTCI got to the end of this, and had mistaken just the 6 outside the top of the grid for a 5 and wound up with a totally different solve, and was very very confused when I went to go watch the video. Gah.
