2024-11-10 00:18:52 +0000 UTCGrandpa Gustafson, the perverted old man, that played John Gustafson's Dad, is one of the most hilarious parts of the "Grumpy Old Men" movies. His real name is Burgess Meredith. John Gustafson was played by Jack Lemmon. He was in many good movies. And Max Goldman was played by Walter Matthau, which has also been in many good movies. You were spot on, when you said that he looked like the man who played in "Dennis the Menace". He played Mr. George Wilson. I still remember reading the old comics of "Dennis the Menace" in the Newspaper, when I was little, watching the black and white television series of "Dennis the Menace" on Nickelodeon, when I was a child, and watching the "Dennis the Menace" movie. Dang, I feel as old as dirt...Lol. I went off on a tangent just now. I was going to say, that it was funny when John Gustafson was trying to hand his Dad a beer, and his Dad grabbed the six pack (well, the 5 remaining beers), and he left his son with the one beer.

It’s been a little while since I’ve seen it. I always get choked up when he tells the nurse, “friend.” All of these actors have been around. Been in a lot of classic flicks. Ann Margaret always aged well. You should see her in her hey day in Viva Las Vegas with Elvis. I crack up at the Ronald Reagan bit in the outtakes too! I love this film. Thanks for doing this one.

One of my favorites is The Odd Couple, which was a TV series as well. I also highly recommend watching Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis. The ornery Dad in this movie is the coach in Rocky. Cannot wait for Asia to see it. I think she will love it. A&B - Did you recognize Darryl Hannah from Kill Bill (Elle Driver, the one that loses her eyes) and Steel Magnolias (Annelle)? She looks so different in each movie.

Read up on Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau, two good long-time actors. "Grumpier Old Men" is the sequel movie to this one. This also starred Burgess Meredith the grandpa. He had a long acting career also. Actress Daryl Hannah who played John's daughter starred in "Splash" with Tom Hanks. A big hit movie for her an Tom.

I slammed the dishwasher shut, sock slid to the fridge (got a mountain dew), sprinted thru the dining room, jumped over 6 dogs, missed the stepdown to my entertainment room/office (aka the den) and fell right in front of the chair I was going for. lol I love this movie, I saw it back years ago and it hits even harder now that I'm older. What a great surprise! You two are my jam! <3
