Progress Report

Finished writing Part One of Chapter 3!!

Finally 😭. This second addition grew to be bigger than the first half, mostly because of the amount of variation in it. I think in one playthrough, the part already published is probably longer, but this one has more branches depending on your choices.

Some of them are bigger, others really small. As always, there are options for players who don't want to interact with anyone and would rather move on from Mist's base ♡.

This last week was challenging because I was writing the different variations — Hadrian, for example, has a small possible scene that has three versions, and within those versions, I had to make choices for a romanced Hadrian, a friend, or a rival. Alessa, too, had those variations as did Lance (although Lance's are less branching because you're just now developing your relationship with the bard).

The versions are fun... the first two times, maybe the third. By the fourth, I was ready to move on to Vallen 😭. But I can't, and that's one of the harder parts of Interactive Fiction.

If I'm completely honest, I think the writing I did yesterday and today wasn't my best but I made a note on those weaker parts and when I'm coding, I'll heavily edit and add on to those passages. I just didn't have it in me anymore to make it interesting.

When you're reading, and notice a choice that looks uninspiring or a situation that maybe went by too fast, please tell me! I'll take a second look. 😊 By then, my eyes and head will be clearer, which is why (again) is so important that I only do a definite edit of the chapter months after I'm done with it. If I edit right now, the end product would be so much poorer than when I eventually get to it.

Tomorrow, I'll start coding! I'm hoping to do this fairly quickly because the code skeleton for this part is already built-in, and I only have to add the new text.

I've been writing a little bit of Vallen's meeting, and the path where you don't go and witness Rafael's and Alessa's reunion and I just want to get there!

But I have to go through coding first. The goal for next week is to try to code 20 Word pages a day, which would mean I'd be 3/4th of the update done.
