Progress Report

We're already a third of the way into June. Is it just me or is time flying too fast, now? Here I was complaining not two weeks ago that it needed to pick up the pace, and now I'm afraid there's just not enough of it. It keeps slipping like water through my fingers.

And people, I'm parched.

But, racing time aside, this week has been so good! I've had to turn off my phone whenever I sat down to write because I'm getting notifications every second, but I was able to focus! Finally! I could immerse myself in the world and it was like putting on very used, very familiar slippers. I'm not yet at my top form, it still took me longer to write a section that I would have finished way earlier in the weeks leading to the release of Book One.

But, it is getting easier and easier.

Hadrian's scene is DONE! 🥳 Ahh, I'm so HAPPY!!! It's the first time you interact with him in Book 2, so I wanted it to go smoothly. He's one of the main cast, of course, and at this point, I'm so used to writing him, yet he keeps surprising me as well. I think he's grown so much since that fateful first chapter in Book One, the awkward but well-meaning ex-templar. He grew so much, and I like to think the MC grows alongside him too.

Now it's time for the other character who also has come a long way since her conception. The other member of your trio, the always a pleasure to write Alessa. This is also the first scene she appears in Book 2, and just like Hadrian's, I want to make it count.

I'm excited to dive into her head in the next week! She, I know, will always surprise me. Such is the way of our cold mercenary.

The goal for next week is to write every single day. And, if the gods of creativity are smiling down upon me, I want to finish the romance version of the conversation. Perhaps I'm shooting too high, for I know myself. When it comes to dialogue, I can scarcely contain my fingers from flying across the keyboard. But, goals are things to watch from afar, pulling you, like that tempting line of the horizon, so I'll use it as such.

Something to drive me.

I may also start to send emails to a small group of beta testers who helped me with Book One, inquiring if maybe, if they're so inclined, they'd like to go through the prologue of Book 2. I want to post it here on Patreon next month, so I'd love some feedback now. But just thinking about it is making me nervous! 😆

Summer is fast approaching, and the weather here seems eager for it. Much like our poor mercenary, I too have to suffer the intense touch of the sun. It seems the sky is averse to clouds, and blue stretches to infinity. It does make the sea look lovely, however. And its breeze like a palm on my skin.

I hope you find a cool shade to rest under this weekend. And, if you're in the southern hemisphere, may you find refuge from the rain instead. 🌹
