Wrapping Up 2021 & Behind-the-Scenes Video!

Hey everyone,

Hope the year is wrapping up nicely for you and you’re looking forward to 2022! Let’s see if this decade can manage anything like a normal year…

I’m mixing it up for the end of the year with a Patreon-only video update! A little behind-the-scenes here at the lab and of course a huge thank you for your support. Here’s a link!

A quick run through of what’s new this month:

TUTORIALS

Animated Ink Effect in After Effects

Back in After Effects with a simple setup that’s lots of fun to experiment with. For the Photoshop-only folks, might still be interesting to watch, as many of the same principles apply.

Dynamic Collage in Photoshop

And of course the Photoshop tutorial from just a few days ago - which, as it happens, makes a pretty cool setup with a little finagling to get it working in After Effects!

TEXTURES

Lots of rain around here this month, so I ran with an indoor theme and worked on torn paper and collage elements. Several of the paper overlays may look a bit dark since they’re not bright white, but they are actually balanced to 50% grey for contrast blending modes. For that wheat-paste poster look, try em out with Hard Light!

Lots of new stuff in the works for the new year... I’m looking forward to it.

All my best to you, and Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Brady

Ha that's awesome to hear! Cool, Happy New Year to you as well!

Brady, Life Leone's Is This Love is now part of my favs playlist, forever. Thanks for all the awesomeness and happy belated new year!

I started out in the early 2000's in advertisement design. Then I got into web design. I used to do some motion graphics back with the old Macromedia Flash when everyone wanted their websites to move, but I wouldn't say I was a motion graphics artist. I knew enough to get me by. I run a small business now with a focus on helping out businesses in my hometown that can't usually afford a big-city agency. I took a break from performing music a couple of years before the pandemic. Never thought I would be forced to extend the break. I saw your channel and thought it would be cool to do some designing for art's sake again while we are stuck inside.

That's awesome, thanks! Do you do motion work? I'm biased, but it always seems like editors and motion graphics artists who have a good sense of music have some extra instincts...

From a life-long music & half-a-life designer, that was killer! Glad you shared.
