Unseen Scene, Bobby Kiss Reveal— Book Three, Chapter Five (Nate POV)
Added 2024-05-22 13:00:18 +0000 UTC“…It's always better when you're alone."
That one word from this particular human’s mouth sends a wash of nausea through Nate.
“Alone?” The word repeats from Nate sending a chill of dread through him that he does a good job at not letting show on his expression.
The reporter is smug enough without adding to his ego with Nate’s true reaction.
But he apparently doesn’t do as good a job at masking it as he hoped, as Bobby’s delighted gaze snaps to him, drinking in every tense line and concerned edge that tugs at Nate’s posture.
"Yes. We do get up to all sorts of things when we're together by ourselves,” he continues.
This revelation is difficult enough to stomach but when [Name]’s heart kicks a beat beside Nate, it only has the awful punch of jealousy hitting deeper into his chest.
Jealousy. Such a dreadfully disgusting emotion. Not one Nate is ever used to feeling and never wants to. He has no right to feel it. [Name] owes him nothing. Yet…it is hope of the possibility of something between them that brings out a bright green in Nate’s eyes that he can’t stop.
Bobby takes his time in revelling in their reaction. Savouring every morsel of thick apprehension that lingers in the air. "That kiss last time we were alone." His tongue draws a line across his lips in a way that makes Nate want to vomit. "Still makes me tingle."
A thousand emotions and thoughts hit Nate at once. A prominent one being: ‘Why him and not me?’. It stings. It cuts.
It’s also useless.
Lamenting over what has passed between [Name] and this slug of a reporter doesn’t change it.
And oddly, it only cements to Nate just how deeply and quickly he has fallen for [Name]. He hasn’t felt a reaction this stinging when hearing about anyone in…well, ever.
It doesn’t help soothe him, but it does make him realise how badly he wants to be the next person [Name] kisses.
And Nate will definitely not let it be as much of a footnote as this reporter’s romantic attempts likely were.
The thoughts rush with such ferocity, that it’s some time before Nate realises he hasn’t spoken—that none of them have spoken.
"You should probably get going. We have…a lot of work to do here,” Nate eases out, unsure what else to say. He has no right to feel the deep cut of pain that accompanied this news, but at the same time, he is heartened by his sudden resolve for [Name] to see him in the same light.
Now it is just working out a way of making it so.
Nate turns away from the pain of the scene, the disappointment of it still weighing on his shoulders, but also with the slightest sliver of hope he didn’t expect to feel.
…As long as [Name] wants it too.

Following this scene from Nate's POV, Mishka has given me a glimpse into Agent Sewell's stress "tells" - if you keep an eye out, when Nate gets stressed he reverts back to a more formal way of speaking and thinking, like he would've been used to in his original time of living! I will definitely have to keep a look out for this now!!!!

Oh this was even better than I thought it would be. I love the clarity that comes with N’s jealousy - I haven’t seen a character have that sort of awareness about their feelings in the usual jealousy scenarios. And that bit about not wanting to be a footnote was just delicious - it’ll be a love for the ages, if I’m remembering the prophecy right. 🥰
