The movies are a different timeline/canon, but it's the third one. Also there's a spin off of Code Geass called "Akito the Exiled" and the events happen between S1 and S2. You can watch the spinoff at anytime after finishing season 1

I watched the One Piece Dub first as a kid until I ran out of dubbed episodes and when I watched Nick’s reaction of the first few episodes I was floored by how ridiculous Chouchou the dog sounded in the sub. The dubbed version made me tear up with sadness; the sub made me tear up with laughter. Same reaction to hearing Goku’s OG voice actor in DBZ after being used to watching the dub as a kid. Sometimes the dubbed does it better imo…

honestly, people who hate on dubs are usually the ones that a. haven't seen any good ones yet, and/ or b. they're just being stubborn for the sake of it and don't want to admit that there's some actual good ones out there. i personally enjoy sub because i love hearing the original cast & it's easier for me to keep up with reading than just listening, but there's some AMAZING dubs out there!

I understand why Nick might not want to watch dubbed versions of anime, given the controversial nature of it in the wider anime community, but for those of us who are neurodivergent or have hearing/audio processing issues, there should be no shame in watching dubbed anime. Most are really good, especially modern day ones do a better job of not altering the original script except to make the adr fit. It annoys me that people still act as though dubbed is this horrible sacrilegious thing, even though a lot of American Voice Actors are incredibly talented.

Same, nick. I also tend to hesitate on mech/robot anime, but this one is not much about mech, but more about brain/strategies anime. Closer to Death Note in that aspect. You don't have to focus too much on Numbers hahaha, those are just code numbers and mech names that you don't have to focus.

i think you're delusional for thinking all dubs are bad, 99 percent of the time i personally will vouch for sub, but there's certain anime games and anime where dub is really good and even surpasses the orignal voice acting. rare but possible, your way of thinking is too one sided. lelouch's english VA is god tier and imo better than his sub one.

watching this for the first time along with you, and even though i know some spoilers, i'm definitely interested to see how this plays out. i think it's amazing that both of these new series are very different from the more "typical" shounen-style series you usually watch! the variety is SUCH a breath of fresh air. and since both haikyuu and code geass require you to pay closer attention & take your time to process things, i don't think anyone here will mind if you're not as "hyped up" and energetic as you tend to be with other anime. seeing you try to piece things together and take everything in is just as entertaining in my opinion! hope you & live are having a great day/night <3

Honestly you should really watch it dubbed, it makes it easier to follow without pausing and having to backread, easier to follow the military scenes and the voice actors put their literal heart into this anime, lelouch, Suzaku, Kallen, nunally etc all had so much passion that its just in its own class compared to any other dub, and I swear the ending of it all was even better in dub than sub, and I will swear by that

Honestly, for me, it depends on the show. I prefer subs in general, but I have watched some anime in dubs and enjoyed it a lot. I have also watched dubs and hated and, and enjoyed a dub version more than the sub on rare occasions. It all depends on the casting, skill and effort of the voice actors, and personal preference.

To add to that list, I would certainly say Steve Blum's voice acting in Cowboy Bebop excels above his colleagues, though I'm perhaps a little biased. That said, it's comparing professionals against one another; they're all great in their field and every voice in that show was done quite well! There's a lot to the craft and because it is so vast, you have your hits and misses, this goes for dubbing in the original languages too. Someone tossing a blanket statement out because they want to prove to everyone just how much of an Anime fan they are just isn't the way to do it. There is a difference between critique and criticize; one which shows respect for the work and analyzes fairly, while the other simply wants to tear down and argue for the sake of arguing. Look around, expand your horizons and try out new things. I would say the truest fans are those that don't have anything to prove. Just sit back and enjoy what you enjoy. Critique and have fun with it!

The dub for Code Geass is actually top tier. Lelouche's english VA is the best fitting VA I have seen for any character in any anime. Absolutely legendary. So good that I personally suggest to anyone to watch the dub exclusively for Lelouche. The other voices aren't bad, none of them really, but few excel on the same level.

I’m gonna consider Code Geass, Monster, and Death Note to be the most similar. They all came out around the same time(about 2007), and are all mature with lots of dark aspects shown, and all 3 have smart characters with some goal to change the world. So, I’d HIGHLY recommend Monster at some point in the future as a reaction. But yeah Code Geass, Monster, and Death Note are in my top 5 list for anime, so I am biased
