Should have already watched this episode in between season 1 and 2. The impact of this OVA with just season 1 knowledge is way bigger. At that point this would be the first time you see a titan "speaking" and showing any kind of emotion, and its even an unintelligent titan unlike Eren or Annie. In the next episode (first of season 2) you would then see the first time a titan really speaks like a person, the beast titan. And the flashback of Ymir a few episodes later is telling how whats happening in this episode came to be, if you put the pieces together. Most of the OVAs of AOT are great and added some small story pieces to make the whole story even better ;)

2023-03-01 15:03:37 +0000 UTCI think the story here was that Ilse looked a lot like Ymir, the one who was in love with Historia, and that Ymir used to deceive people in Marley by saying she's the creator of the subjects of ymir, among her followers was this guy who's the main titan in the OVA, he got turned into a titan and sent to Paradise, here he finds Ilse and thinks she's Ymir cause they look alike, so he thinks she's the creator, therefore he praises her, and when Ilse speaks to him, he begins to rip his flesh, maybe because he would want to respond but it's unable, he's trying so hard not to kill her and contain himself, he's giving her a chance to escape as he stays there and mutilates himself, but the temptation beats him and he goes to kill her, but keeps her body safe for future people to find her :(
