He seemed like some rando guy who’d only show up on that rooftop scene, but if you go back and watch him back then, especially his “reasoning” behind wanting to save Erwin instead of Armin, Floch’s future role in the story was foreshadowed from the start. I personally hate the dude, but at least you can say that he’s one of those characters who remained consistent throughout the entire story. About Annie’s dad, I don’t blame you for having mixed feelings about him. I personally feel the same: out of all the backstories, Annie’s felt the “weakest” to me, precisely because the guy had a change of heart too late, in my opinion. At the same time, I feel like Annie’s desire to want to go back to him could be realistic if you consider that her dad is literally the only person she has left. When you’re in a messed-up world, and you’re about to embark on such a dangerous mission, I feel like you just cling to that one person who’s going to be waiting back for you at home, no matter how imperfect that person might be, and I think that’s what the author was going for here.
