I can’t begin to tell you how important the latch is. I know I go over this a lot, but it is extremely important that no matter the age of the child you make sure your child has the best latch! I was able to catch the perfect example of a good latch with the lips, turned up and tongue between the teeth and milk source for maximum milk extraction.
You may find it easier just to allow your child to drink milk however, they choose to latch, but if you realized how much more milk your child gets when they have a proper latch, you would definitely pay more attention to it. There are times when your child will have a lazy latch or just try to breast-feed for comfort. Even so gently taking your finger to upturn the lips during a feeding session can help your child extract so much more milk that they will be getting the ultimate nutrition from your breastmilk!
Long live the “ducky lips” 🤣 when it comes to breastfeeding your child!
It may seem silly, but this positioning of the lips is the best possible latch in order to maintain a good milk supply, extract the most milk, and give you a pain-free Breastfeeding experience with your child. Do not be afraid to fix the latch! With practice, it becomes easy, and your child may already know how to properly latch once it becomes a good habit. Happy feedings mommies!
