This one’s for all my newest mommies (or person), who have just had their baby and are trying to establish getting their milk supply in.
You must wake up your baby during a feeding in order to get your milk supply in and to keep your milk supply up! If you do not wake your baby while they are eating from the breast, they may not get the calorie intake. They need to thrive. This leads to low weight gain and complications of getting your milk in!
This is a very important thing to do. It is not always necessary to completely wake the baby. I have a wonderful hack for you that can help your babies natural response of suckling in order for the feeding to progress as a Nature intended. This will ensure that your milk comes in and that you will have an abundant supply of milk for your little one.
First you gently take your finger please make sure your hand is clean, and make a crescent motion swiping from the lip area on the cheek up to the ear area. Repeat this motion over and over and you will see your baby slightly wake enough to suckle at the breast in order to encourage your breast to make your milk come in. If you already have your milk supply that has come in, but need to maintain the supply this is also a necessary hack for you.
This motion from the lip to the ear encourages the instinctual response from the baby to drink their milk. This allows your child to get the maximum amount of milk per feeding in order to gain proper weight in order to thrive. This will give the proper amount of calories for your child with each feeding and will ensure that you keep a good supply of milk for your growing child.
It is recommend that only breastmilk be given to a baby at least until the age of six months when you can start solids. Other people choose to start solids around four months of age. always talk to your doctor about what’s best for you. A good way to tell if your baby is getting enough milk is by how many diaper changes you do per day I will get into that lesson later!
Thank you so much for helping me support my family while you’re learning from me!
