Is Grey nipple discharge normal?

Hello mommy’s and Family’s today I wanted to discuss the different changes in nipple discharge during your breast feeding journey.

After a long term antibiotic use and steroids (all these prescriptions that I had to take for treating my illnesses) after I fed my baby, I was hand, expressing the rest of my milk and gray nipple discharge started coming out of my nipple!

At first, I was baffled and worried that this was not a normal thing because usually it is white milk . I have experienced pink milk while pumping because of raw sore nipples, but never grey!

To my surprise, this is a normal color for nipple discharge! I was thinking it could be all of the things coming out of my body and I thought oh my gosh I don’t want to be giving that to my child!

My doctor assured me that everything was normal and ok!

I wanted to share this with you in case you see, funky, discharge coming out of your nipple while being a Breastfeeding mother!

The only abnormal color for nipple discharge and cause for concern is bloody discharge.

Intraductal papilloma and duct ectasia can cause bloody discharge and sometimes even I’m sorry to say breast cancer. It is always good to get your nipple discharge checked out by your doctor! During breast-feeding, it can be a very normal thing to get bloody discharge due to mastitis and other complications of ofcracked nippkes and infections as well.

Sometimes it will be totally normal and rarely will it be abnormal, but it is always best to check with your doctor when you’re concerned ! I’m just here to help you through it!

Here’s what my gray oily nipple discharge looked like that brought me to call my doctor and that is why I am sharing this educational blog with you!

I also wanted to mention that I had gone a couple weeks without feeding my child. Once she was introduced the breast again that’s when this discharge started, and I thought it could possibly be colostrum as the breast thought I had a newborn again since it had been a while since I had fed her!

This was my experience, and I hope that you learned a lot from it. Have a blessed day and a great breast-feeding journey. I’m happy to be here to help!
