When we choose to feed our babies the way nature intended we need to make sure we are making the healthiest food choices for our own bodies as well as those of our children.
There are a few things I wanted to go over today in this blog pertaining to the negative of breast-feeding. I know that I mostly go to the positive route because I believe in positivity and health, but I thought this was important information for mommies who are choosing to extended breast-feed.
Just in case you were having similar problems to the problems that I am experiencing as well.
First of all extended breast-feeding is extremely healthy for your child. It is also healthy for you as a parent in most aspects such as preventing some cancers allergies and illnesses.
The unfortunate thing about extended breast-feeding or breast-feeding in general is that it can actually bring on early osteoporosis, brittle bones, and vitamin deficiency (especially calcium). In order to make the milk that fill up the milk ducts in the breast, the body uses these nutrients to provide optimal nutrition for the child.
If you are suffering from easily pulled muscles, bone fractures, joint pain or stiffness and generally not feeling like yourself, acne, hormonal imbalances, weight gain or too much weight loss, all of these things can be difficulties from breastfeeding.
As crazy as it is, I myself am choosing to continue to breast-feed for the health of my daughter, but have actually been thinking about all the I’ll effects I’ve experienced from breastfeeding.
I want to let her choose when to wean, but it’s honestly been a hard decision for me. I enjoy the bond and the closeness and the love I feel when I breast-feed my daughter. We have a different bond and closeness than I experienced with my first. My first chose to breast-feed off and on for five years with very big gaps in between. My youngest daughter has never stopped or taken any gaps from breast-feeding and has always chose to stay close to Mama and my chest. It is her comfort zone.
I wanted to share this blog today with you because of the difficulties I have personally been experiencing from breast-feeding.
First, I have noticed a drain of energy. I’m tired all the time, chronic fatigue and an underlying postpartum depression that I’ve had to overcome with treatments that are safe for breastfeeding.
I’ve experienced a drain in my bone calcium and I’m easily injured when I work out. My muscles get pulled often and easily. I have also experienced some severe joint pain. I have done my best to make sure that I have added extra nutritional items into my diet such as kale and dark leafy greens and a postnatal vitamin regimen.
I have noticed on days when I forget to take my vitamins my bones are extra sensitive and joint pain is at its highest.
Recently I wanted to share with mommies and families that I have changed my diet back to the diet that I had when I first had my baby.
I’ve re- introduced spirulina, chlorella, morninga, green tea, and 7mushroom blend powders (the mushroom has a large amount of natural vitamin D for calcium retention. )
This has seemed to help. I hope it also helps you at home. Finding the right nutritional balance in order to keep our bodies healthy while breast-feeding our children is crucial to our own health.
Always talk to your doctor before starting any new diet regimen or supplement to make sure that it is safe for you and your baby.
I found that it was very easy to turn to junk foods and submit to cravings on my breast-feeding journey and realize that after gaining too much weight and feeling very lethargic and overall disgusted with myself I had to do some thing.
I am so thankful to myself and to the others that have help me get back on track that I am starting to finally feel like myself again.
I have recently lost 10 pounds and am keeping to my strict diet and lifestyle changes to get my health back where I want it and hopefully be able to continue to breastfeed my daughters as needed to give them the best chance at a healthy strong immune system with all these super bugs that are plaguing our world.
