Caring for a sick child is extremely overwhelming knowing that all we want is to make them feel better and there’s not much we can do.
The things we can do though are nurse and breastfeed as much as possible, give over-the-counter medication as long as your pediatrician says it is safe to do so and with the proper dosage for the child’s weight, cold compress on forehead, light clothing, skin to skin contact, all can help them feel a bit better.
Skin to skin contact whether nursing or not holding your child close with their diaper or undergarments on can actually help regulate their body temperatures and help bring down a fever along with the over-the-counter medication that your pediatrician recommends for you.
If you are a breast-feeding mother and taking any over-the-counter pain relievers or Tylenol ibuprofen or anything like this please take that into consideration and speak to your pediatrician about the right dosage for your child because they may be getting some of the medicine from your breastmilk.
There are dangers to over consumption of acetaminophen or ibuprofen for yourself and your child so always speak to your doctor and your pediatrician to make sure that you were giving the proper dosage especially when you were taking these over-the-counter medication‘s yourself and breastfeeding your child.
