When Bart and Lisa don't show proper reverence for the 1970 film Love Story, Homer and Marge decide to take a Flanders-funded sex trip to Miami. But when the kids find out they've been deceived, they pursue their parents in a city-hopping adventure that culminates in a perfectly serviceable Catch Me if You Can parody.

Truly impressive that they made Marge absolute match "Jerk-Ass Homer" energy towards the kids and also produce an episode that's frankly really boring! I remembered thinking this was okay when I watched it back in 2004, but I can't say I remember revisiting it since then, and clearly it is MUCH worse than I remembered. But still not the worst episode of the Al Jean return era so far, I think.

2025-08-14 21:28:07 +0000 UTCI know the Dayton stuff had no real plot implications but I was a little surprised that there was no mention of Dayton's history with tornadoes. The region was hit pretty hard from the memorial day 2019 tornadoes and a former Holiday Inn north of the city got wrecked hard. There is also Xenia Ohio which is about fifteen miles east of Dayton and has a history with tornadoes dating back to the 1960s.

As an adult, I now understand that yes, it's good and natural for parents to want time to themselves. But Homer and Marge fantasizing about a life without their kids genuinely bummed me out when I watched this for the first time as a preteen. I remember thinking "Oh, do my parents not want me? Did I ruin everything?" All at the pen of some writer who could probably afford the most elite of daycares. That said, I do still get a laugh at Grandpa's feet turning into the Wicked Witch
