What A Cartoon Movie! - Chicken Run

After winning a handful of Oscars, the British stop-motion studio Aardman decided to enter a new frontier: the world of feature-length motion pictures. And thankfully, those plucky upstarts over at DreamWorks—including a little guy named Jeffrey Katzenberg—were more than willing to help these creative folks meet their goal. The result was 2000's Chicken Run, a charming stop-motion creation that tapped into then-popular World War II nostalgia to weave a tale of prisoner-of-war chickens escaping certain doom. So get ready to listen and learn all about this turn-of-the-century treasure on the podcast that's more fun than going on holiday!

Maybe in Dec, or in 2024, you guys can do a follow up on the sequel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2glrzI9UGOY comes out on the 15th odfdec this year

I always read Gingers comb dangling down after Mrs Tweedy swung her axe to look like inside parts to make you think her head really had been removed. Lol Also I hate to be that guy but Mr Tweedy and Wallace do not have the same accent. Wallace is from Lancashire, & Mr Tweedy is from Yorkshire. 2 counties with a long standing rivalry. (Hence why Gromit throws the bomb over the Yorkshire border in Loaf and Death) Also I Love to hear that Henry likes Phoenix nights. I wonder if he’d like Max and Paddy’s road to nowhere?

Always enjoy when WaC covers something British! Just a few points of potential interest: - Imelda Staunton (Bunty) is currently playing the Queen in the final seasons of "The Crown" - Whilst most of the slang is genuine Yorkshire dialect, I'm pretty sure 'nelly-podging' was straight up invented by Aardman - At least three members of the cast were in 1970's cult classic 'Quadrophenia'. Fans of 90's Britpop might recognise Phil Daniels (Fetcher) as the narrator on Blur's 'Parklife'. - 'Riverdance' is Irish rather than Scottish. Also, Bristolians (distinguished by their pirate-y accents) are located in the South West of England rather than the North. - 'Early Man' is even heavier on the Britishisms than this, be warned!

Chicken Run is the better version of Animal Farm.

This podcast unlocked so many memories for me. I saw this movie in theaters when I had just turned five years old, and I remember being absolutely mesmerized by the gorgeous animation and beautiful story. I would always say “ginger” (or Gin-jah) in an English voice when I was goofing around at school. I do remember understanding the fact that rocky couldn’t fly on my first watch, but honestly one of my parents might have just whispered it in my ear. Thanks for the podcast boys, amazing work as always.

If Mac and Babs aren’t in the sequel I will be very upset

I never knew about the Marxist reading of this movie! Definitely going to rewatch it with this in mind.

I have the good tier, which still includes unskippable pre-roll ads for other Paramount+ programs: https://help.paramountplus.com/s/article/Why-am-I-still-seeing-ads-when-streaming-video-on-demand-with-the-Commercial-Free-plan - Bob

You might have the lower paid tier of P+ and showtime...which has ads. There's a completely ad free tier. It's like hulu. You can pay for less ads or no ads. Just gotta pay more if you don't want ads.

Great podcast. However as the husband of a historical romance author I'd be remiss if I did not mention that dance cards go far back as the 18th century and were popular at balls during the Victorian era.

I saw this movie in the theater as a kid and went to Universal Studios Hollywood where there was some kind of exhibit where you could walk around the sets used and see the puppets, really wish more movies did that. One of the reasons I probably liked so much as a kid was this is a female led movie made before that was considered controversial or invoked a culture war conversation

Wife guys lost a fake one in John Mulaney. I don't think he'll carry that same energy with Olivia Munn...

I’m enjoying the discussion on the U.K. itself as it’s always funny how often I hear Americans refer to the U.K. as simply England. While most of the time it’s not untrue (since they probably are from England), there can be baggage with that. The full title of the U.K. is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Even though I’m from London/England, I personally prefer to refer to myself as British because in my experience there is often a hint of nationalism when people are loud about referring to themselves as English as opposed to British, especially in recent years. Though having not lived there for the past 6 years now I dunno if it makes much of a difference these days!

A movie where a scoundrel is brought to the good side by charming good people: Bushwhacked.

"Owt" = "aught" = "zero" like "back in the aughts" for the 200x's
