TalKing of the Hill - Snow Job

We're covering a seasonally appropriate episode this month as Arlen undergoes a weather crisis and Buck Strickland undergoes a health crisis. Just as a rare cold snap hits Arlen, Buck succumbs to a heart attack, leaving the vile Vickers in charge of Strickland Propane and Hank as the keeper of his boss' unruly hounds. But as Vickers begins to run the business into the ground and hurt its customers just when they need god's gas the most, will Hank return in time to save the day? Listen in and learn the answer to this question, plus just how much propane you can exchange for a can of pumpkin pie mix!

I got the croup when I was 8 or 9. Woke up in the middle of the night coughing uncontrollably, but I sounded like a seal barking! I didn't feel horribly sick or anything, but I could only whisper at most for a couple days. Anyway, definitely one of my favorites from this season. So interesting to hear how tortured the production of this episode was for how good it ended up being.

This is definitely one of my favorite KOTH episodes being the right blend of humor and sweet character moments. I was really surprised that there were so many deleted scenes, probably the most amount of deleted scenes for any subject covered under the Talking Simpsons Network. And yet this is probably one of the best episodes they've done of the show. Some of the best moments in TV really get finished at the last moment.

You know, the lifestream is a lot like sweet lady propane...

As I look out my window (right now) and see the beginning of a snowstorm with an expected 17 inches to come by tomorrow evening I just want to say, kudos on the scheduling of this episode!

I spent the first 8 years of my life growing up in New Hampshire, but in 92 we had to move to Virginia as my dad's job was relocated. We only ended up staying about a year, but while there we were treated to the region's first snow in several years. It was quite an experience seeing the hysteria leading up to it: stores packed as people stocked up on food, department stores equally crowded as snow removal equipment and apparel flew off the shelves, long lines at the gas station. When the storm hit, the whole region ground to a halt for what was maybe 2 inches of snow. I just went out in my jeans, while the kid next door trotted over looking like Ralphie's little brother Randy from A Christmas Story. I remember making a snowman and as I rolled what would become the body the grass behind me was exposed which very much upset that same kid. And now I need to go gas-up my snowblower as we're expecting around 2 feet of snow to fall tomorrow. I won't be seeing any grass for awhile.

This is probably one of my top KOTH episodes of all time. Fun fact: in regards to checkov’s tow truck we actually see it at the top of act 2 after the return from break, when we see the shot of the hospital look closet and you’ll see an ambulance in front of the entrance on a tow truck. I recently rewatched the series and caught that and found it hilarious. Also as far as what hanks doing with his truck in that one scene I think I may know. Growing up in small (small small) town Oklahoma being miles from big cities we’d have to make up our own fun and sometimes this would include drifting, although when we did it it usually would be during rainstorms, and not snow. It’s likely Hank did something similar with Bill, Boomhauer, and Dale when they were kids in high school as well.

Classic episode...rewatched season 2 not too long ago

lifelong Texan and current Dallas resident, can confirm that growing up if there was ever so much as the thinnest layer of ice on the roads or an inch of snow, that was it. schools were closed through most of the day and grocery store aisles were emptied. it was fun and new as a kid but as an adult navigating it here is such a pain in the ass because of the frenzy it sends people into. last year's February storm was one of the worst things I ever lived through not because of how cold it was but because of how poorly-equipped our state is for it and our governor has almost certainly done nothing to prepare for it. We did a KOTH re-watch last summer and my wife and I groaned a little when this one came on.

When Buck makes the snow angel with one arm he is creating a one winged angel, I choose to believe this is a reference to Sephiroth, energy corporation Strickland Propane being the Shinra of Arlen. The planet's dyin, Hank

Here in Houston (northern transplant), can confirm we are all a little paranoid about freezes now. Has anyone else seen the analyses that determine Arlen is between Waco and Ft Worth? (Not a Dallas suburb) If that's right then snow wouldn't be SUPER rare, but they definitely would not be prepared for anything over an inch.
