Vote On The January 2022 What A Cartoon Movie!
Added 2021-12-01 15:00:08 +0000 UTC
As inconceivable as it may seem, 2021 is just about over. We at the Talking Simpsons Network can't believe it either! Nevertheless, we're planning to swing into 2022 with just as much awesome stuff as we made in 2021, be it new podcasts of Talking Simpsons, What A Cartoon, Talking Futurama, or TalKing of the Hill (coming very soon)! And as always, we plan to end the first month of the year as we always do, with another of our monthly $10 premium podcasts, and we'll need your help to decide what we'll be covering in January 2022.
For those of you who are new to the Talking Simpsons Patreon, WELCOME. Also, you should know that once a month we release the What A Cartoon Movie! podcast, an extra-long discussion about an animated feature film, exclusively for our $10+ Patreon subscribers. And when we open up the voting for each month's subject, we want all the $5 subscribers to also have a chance to be heard too, so those subscribers can help pick episodes they might enjoy down the line!
Our first 2022 poll is all about revisiting the era of direct-to-video animation, specifically the many follow-ups Disney released for its biggest hits! For January we're going to let you choose our next film podcast from some of the most well-known Disney sequels the late '90s/early '00s could offer!
So here are the four Disney sequel films you'll be voting on:
Belle's Magical World (1998) - This cancelled TV series got turned into an interquel about Belle and Beast trying to live together surrounded by living clocks and candles!
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II: The Secret of the Bell (2002) - Six years after the first film, Quasimodo makes a new friend while also battling a circus over a bell!
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000) - After the happy ending Ariel has am impudent child of her own, and she's bothered by a different sea witch, as well as Buddy Hackett's final film role!
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998) - After the first film covered Hamlet, the sequel takes on Romeo & Juliet as Shakespearean lions battle with ghosts of the past!
So please, make your choice known before the poll closes on the night of January 7! And thanks as always for your continued support of our podcasts—we couldn't keep doing all our super-deep movie podcasts without you!

Since it looks inevitable that LK2 is taking this poll might I suggest maneuvering a collaboration with Breadtuber Big Joel, a very fun and always interesting media critic who did a good video about that film.

2021-12-03 17:56:21 +0000 UTCI feel like it should be the sequel to a movie you've covered. So either Hunchback or Lion King

2021-12-02 13:31:12 +0000 UTCHey folks. I recently found out that my dad's best friend actually owned/ran Toon City (The studio that did the animation for these films) during this era. The studio was founded and owned by Canadians (Colin Baker and his brother Dan) and I've been regaled with some history on the studio and this period, up to the sale (I believe it was in 2013) to Filipino owners. I would be more than happy to put you in touch with the Bakers, or if it's better to get as much history on Toon City as I can from them to pass on! The stories I've been told are very fun and I'd be happy to share!

2021-12-01 18:02:29 +0000 UTCIf you guys ever do Disney sequels month again, I recommend Cinderella III. It's one of the few that's actually okay, and it's also one of the few times Disney tried the "but the original story doesn't make sense" callouts and it wasn't a trainwreck.

2021-12-01 16:35:17 +0000 UTCkind of disappointing that the results for these always favor the more popular, widely-liked movie rather than the disasters that would be infinitely more fun to talk about. Hunchback 2 is such a bizarre shitshow
