Talking Simpsons - Bye Bye Nerdie With Kat Bailey

This week's episode about nerds vs bullies is joined by the returning Kat Bailey, our friend and the co-host of the Axe of the Blood God podcast! In this Lisa-centric ep she has her own bully, all while Homer cares about baby-proofing (and gets maimed). What's the secret that causes bullying? Learn on this podcast, and be careful dialing up poison deliveries!

Regarding Springfield Confidential: that was Milhouse who puked in the bounce house, not Wendell. SORRY FELLAS

I too was a victim of sharp 80s table corners. Bashed my head off of one when I was 3 or 4. It left that a scar that’s given me a permanent divot on my right temple.

The fact that the commercial was solely about the Hommer B plot really tells a lot about how the show feels about Lisa and Lisa stories.

This was one of the first episodes that I watched the premier and reacted like Nelson to Pouchie--that sucked! TV has traditionally done a terrible job addressing bullying to the point that some sitcoms from the 80s victim blamed the targets and pretty much said they deserved it for the crime of not acting in the right way or liking "weird" things. And let's not forget how garbage people like Sarah Palin were concerned that anti bullying initiatives in schools would infringe on the god given right of white Christians to torture other children especially ones they lable "queer". Having listened to this podcast I'll give the episode another watch so I can appreciate the positive things you brought up. Circling back to Database, I haven't heard anyone bring up a point that I figured would have been obvious--I always figured Database appearance and voice was inspired by Pat from Saturday Night Live to the point I wondered back then if Julia Sweeny was playing him.

"Pi is exactly three!" is such a gem. Season 12 has had more of those sorts of moments than I'd remembered.

Millhouse was sick on the bounce house, not wendall 😉

This was one of the few episodes I had on tape, and I watched it all the time, so this brings back a lot of memories. I forgot just how much the Scully years really brought me into e Simpsons as a child. This episode is so funny, tho with a few problematic moments. The Homer baby proofing plot line is classic to me. Also I’m SICK of you boys talking smack on NRBQ, I feel like the songs they use are very fitting. Great episode as always boys

"Let's not listen." really needs more love! ^_^

I think he’s talking about the Fear of a Bot Planet episode.

What's the episode of Talking Futurama with Bob's bullying story?

Kat is totally right that this episode really has some Golden Era energy, and it's really fun, even if the awkward covering of its bullying subject matter has only gotten worse in the 20 years since this aired. Lauren MacMullan really did a great job with this one, to the point that I would NEVER have remembered that came in the latter half of season *12* with some of the big stinkers that we've had in it.

Hey you guys didn’t get Cheney or Kissinger but there’s less yellow cake uranium about to be discovered so in a way the “curse” apparently finds a way. Political macabre aside, it’s really uncanny.

There was some baby proofing back then, but it just consisted of plastic covers for outlets not in use, plastic covers for coffee table corners if you kid was a head banger and maybe lowering the max temp of your water heater so if you kids didn't listen to Tweety Bird, they still wouldn't burn themselves. Also eyebrow scar team represent!
