What A Cartoon! - Donald Duck "Der Fuehrer's Face"

Chosen by premium Patreon subscriber Loki, we're approaching a very historically important but controversial cartoon starring Donald Duck (and if you're not in the mood to hear about nazi atrocities, we understand). First, we explore Donald's 1934 debut, how he was at the height of his popularity just as global war was breaking out. Then we talk about Disney's WWII propaganda, this Oscar-winning attack on history's greatest monster, the long legacy since its release in 1943, and more!

Gotta love how people complain about Disney getting "too political" over the past few years when this nearly 80 year-old cartoon is literally war propaganda aka overtly political. There's MANY issues with this carton, as you guys touched upon, but at least then Disney could openly oppose Nazis (even if it wasn't for the BIGGEST issues), instead of now where a character like US Agent is portrayed as good because at least he's not a dirty socialist.

I grew up with Donald Duck cartoons being on TV despite not having cable since they would run in syndicated channels here in Los Angeles, and then when Disney bought the channel K-CAL 9 in the 90s they would run them there. That's why it was a surprise to me when Bob and Henry mentioned that the only way to watch the shorts was to have the Disney Channel. To me, Donald was always Clarence Nash. Tony Anselmo's Donald pales in comparison, but I still love it. I hope that his successor does the character justice. As much as I liked Don Cheadle's Donald as a joke in the new Ducktales, to me it just defeats the spirit of the character to be able to fully understand him. I never had too much trouble understanding most of what he said anyway, but that's because I would rewatch the shorts on VHS all the time. Now early, fast talking Chip and Dale, I could NEVER understand. I'd put on the subtitles on Disney + when I watched shorts featuring them and was surprised to see what they said was nothing like what I thought.
