As a Gravity Falls fan, I remember how excited I was when this show and Amphibia were announced. At the time I was more excited for the Owl House, and while I think Amphibia does a better job at capturing the sense of humour that endears me to GF, there's no denying that this show has some truly breathtaking moments of animation, especially some key scenes in the back half of the first season. Also my wife and I quote Hooty pretty frequently. 2020 wound up being a great year for LGBTQIA inclusive stories about going to magic school! In addition to this, a Canadian indie game called Ikenfell was released on Steam and Switch, which I had been hotly anticipating since it was announced that the background composers from Steven Universe were writing music for it. I highly recommend the game, especially for those can no longer get excited about the upcoming Harry Potter game.

I don't know if I've said this before but there was an attempt to get Slayers on American TV sometime in the late 90s/early 00s. Fox Kids outbid Cartoon Network on the broadcast rights to Slayers (along with the show Magic Knights Rayearth) during the big anime boom. However, because this was broadcast TV, they had to edit the show for content. Lisa Ortiz was even brought back into the studio to re-record some lines such as removing the mention of "blood" in the Dragon Slave incantation. I've hear that around 10 episodes were re-edited, but they, along with Rayearth, never made it to air. My guess is that this was in response to the failure of Escaflowne or the subsequent transfer of Fox's Saturday morning operations to 4kids in 2002.

The sentiment that "people are ok with not liking harry potter anymore because of rowling's transphobia" unfortunately isn't as prevalent as you two made it out to be. some combination of bigotry and shitty taste in media is keeping that franchise and her career afloat. On a lighter note it looks like Dana has returned to twitter, she's been retweeting a lot of fan art in anticipation for season 2

As a current SVA student myself, I can tell you firsthand that my peers respect Dana’s work ethic and this show a whole bunch. My teacher even screened that Senior Year student film of hers in my first year! It’s real inspiring seeing passionate storytellers like Dana thriving in the animation world like this. It makes me excited to see what my generation that’s inspired by works like Owl House and Adventure Time end up making in the future! You know, if we ever get to MAKE anything original in the future XD

Owl House is one of my favorite animated series running right now. Glad to see you covering it, and two weeks before the season two premiere, even if unintentional. I think with cable dying and the then upcoming launch of Disney+, Disney is more okay allowing shows to have sequential storytelling. Just several years ago when Craig McCracken and Daron Nefcy were making their shows for Disney, they were initially told that they weren’t allowed to have serialization because they feared kids wouldn’t watch reruns if they already knew the story. But now with kids more likely going to watch reruns on Disney+ rather than Disney XD, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore. I know this was recorded a while ago, but Dana Terrace is back on Twitter and she revealed the reason she left back in December was that Disney only picked up 6 episodes for season 3 instead of the expected 10 - 20, and it is going to be the final season, so she took time off to focus on that. And slight correction, while the episodes animated by Rough Draft and Sunmin are hand drawn on paper, the episodes animated by Sugarcube are hand drawn on a tablet using Toon Boom. They don’t use assets though, it’s still frame by frame animation, just without paper.

When Bob paused and said CueBone I legit without any sarcasm said out loud to nobody “nice! Good Job Bobby!” I have heard so many podcast or‘s around Bob and Henry‘s age not know a flying shit about Pokémon which is so sad because it may have come a little late for their age group but it still was a huge and still is a huge thing! And yes king is absolutely a Cubone he literally walks and moves his head and is posed in the way Cubone is posed in the show

re: showing magic tricks to monkeys being the only wholesome thing left -- sorry, but I've seen ape behavior experts say that in at least one of those videos (the one where the monkey looks shocked at a thing disappearing), the monkey is actually furious and wants to attack the guy.
