What A Cartoon! - The May 2021 Schedule
Added 2021-04-30 15:00:07 +0000 UTC
Unbelievable as it may seem, we're now one-third of the way through 2021. We hope all is well for you folks, as the Talking Simpsons Network is still rolling along with tons of great podcasts for May. Not only is our current Patreon-exclusive miniseries, TalKing of the Hill Season 2 Part 1, coming your way every Friday, but also keep an eye out for the monthly Talking Futurama episode! And this month we've got another FIVE new What A Cartoon! podcasts on the way. A mutated classic from the early '00s, our first chat about moose and squirrel, a return to a Nick icon, a discussion of a current Disney series, AND our first ever Ralph Bakshi movie!
And if you're not yet a subscriber, don't forget that signing up at the $5 level will get you each of these What A Cartoon! podcasts a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection of exclusive miniseries (like the currently weekly TalKing of the Hill and the monthly Talking Futurama podcast) and over 100 bonus podcasts on top of those!
Here's what's on the schedule for May:
X-Men: Evolution - "Operation: Rebirth" [Patreon: 5/3/21 - Free Feed: 5/10/21]
After covering the '90s incarnation, it's time for us to discuss the turn-of-the-century installment that took things to the Xtreme. We'll chat about how the X-Men ended up on the same channel as Batman, how the writers fought against bad executive demands, and the lone appearance of Captain America in this season 2 episode.
You can find all of X-Men: Evolution on Disney Plus.
The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle - "Rue Britannia Part 5" [Patreon: 5/10/21 - Free Feed: 5/17/21]
Hokey smokes! Yes, we're doing our first-ever podcast about the heroes of Frostbite Falls, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and we'll be going deep into perhaps the best TV toon of the Cold War era. Not only do we chat about the production, but we also talk about the finale of one of the show's best stories, season 2's Rue Britannia! So join us for our next exciting episode!
Rocky and Bullwinkle has a very affordable DVD box set, or you can watch this episode legally on YouTube.
SpongeBob SquarePants - "Chocolate With Nuts/Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy V" [Patreon: 5/17/21 - Free Feed: 5/24/21]
We're going to be joined by one of our premium patrons as we return to SpongeBob for what some call the show's best episode. Not only will we talk about CHOCOLATE but we'll also chat about some of the most influential writers on the show's third season and how they still impact SpongeBob to this very day!
SpongeBob is streaming on Amazon Prime and Paramount+ currently.
The Owl House - "The Intruder" [Patreon: 5/24/21 - Free Feed: 5/31/21]
We've covered so many of the current slate of Disney TV toons, but now it's time to cover the most magical one, The Owl House. We'll delve into the career of series creator Dana Terrace, the show's development, its connections to '90s anime, and tons more. Then we'll discuss the show's important fourth episode, The Intruder!
You'll find the first season of The Owl House on Disney Plus.
An Extended Preview of What A Cartoon Movie for Cool World [Patreon: 5/31/21 - Free Feed: 6/7/21]
We asked you all which live-action/animation hybrid you wanted, and you chose Ralph Bakshi's very troubled final film, Cool World. How did Holli Would and her friends arrive in theaters? How poorly received was it at the box office? And how does Cool World hold up these days? Let's all find out together, noids!
Cool World is currently included with Prime Video.
And remember: $5 patrons and folks on the free feed will hear an extended preview of this last podcast of May, but if you want the whole thing (and access to all previous episodes of What A Cartoon Movie) be sure to take your subscription up to the $10 level.
A very full month with a new episode of What A Cartoon! coming your way five Mondays in a row this May. And don't forget, patrons, you'll hear these early, along with monthly episodes of Talking Futurama, and TalKing of the Hill Season 2 Part 1 coming out all through the month!

Loved x men evolution as a kid. Though why did they had to draw all the guys in the shows have their shirts tucked into their underwear? I’m looking at you, spike.
