The CBC story about the guy fishing with crack was satire BTW.

I'm surprised that Bob was not familiar with U.P.S being referred to as ups. As a child in small town Ohio not too far from Bob's own hometown it was a fairly common thing to hear.

A great secret joke line in this episode is when the lawyer asks Hank if he was ever abused and he says no even though every time we see Hank's upbringing it's Cotton abusing him. In the Simpsons or Family Guy there would surely have been an imagined montage before the denial.

Also, where I live (Kansas City) we are a pretty urban-centric city (no accents, etc) but I HAVE noticed that senior citizens like to pronounce “AARP” as “arp” - like “harp” minus the H, when I answer questions for them at my library job. Until Bob and Henry explained Luanne’s UPS comment, I had never heard it said that way.

I was always surprised that Judge James Carville was about to sentence Hank, a middle age white male, to 2 years in prison for a first drug offense, and maybe his first criminal offense, period. In reality, wouldn’t he get probation and have to take some classes? But I guess it’s Texas, so they are tougher down there.

I also remember 'UPS' being used as a verb, 'Fedex' was also used. Boomhauer (being a Texas Ranger and all) should have stepped in and helped his naïve buddy out with using drugs.

we used to say "ups" as well but that colloquialism seemed to fizzle out post 1999 (in my area at least)

My best friend's family used to refer to UPS as "Ups." I remember him telling me a story that his dog got hit by the "Ups" truck and I had no idea what he was talking about (the dog was fine). This was in New Hampshire so I have no idea where that came from. I don't know if it's regional, or just entirely based on one's own personal interpretation of a UPS truck the first time they see one. I definitely have not encountered many people since who refer to the company as "Ups." When I was a kid, fishing was pretty lame to me. Fine for short bursts, since my dad was really into it, but definitely boring when turned into an all-day outing. Now, I definitely don't mind it as just sitting on a boat, drinking some frosty beverages, and doing nothing isn't so bad. Except I hate the sun, so I have to wear sun shirts and make sure I stay on top of sunscreen. Whenever my dad and I take my son (who is now 6) his excitement for fishing evaporates within moments and I have to hand him my 3DS. He gets really excited to go if I tell him we'll get McDonald's. And actually, not terribly uncommon to catch two fish on one lure, though two 10 lb bass would be pretty insane. When it's happened to me it's usually two puny fish that probably total a pound or two.

I was not expecting Dale to bust out the fringed flag "defense," although in retrospect I'm not sure *why* I wasn't expecting that, of course he'd been in deep on that sovereign citizen nonsense. I about died laughing. I also wonder if there's a gag with the line about being court-martialed twice, like perhaps this is the second time he's tried this argument unsuccessfully.

One of my favorite episodes, especially when Hank buys the crack
