Talking Simpsons - Dancin' Homer (Revisited) With Mike Carlson

We head out to the ball game with our returning guest, Podcast: The Ride's Mike Carlson! Mike helps us understand the magic of baseball, the history of small-town mascots, and more in this week's classic episode of Homer becoming a Minor League star. All that plus we try to deconstruct the weird editing of this episode's framing device, all in one nutty coo-coo super king of a podcast!

Not sure if this is too late, but I think the joke about the 72oz tubs of beer, being extremely cheap, is a reference to the 10 cent beer night fiasco. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Cent_Beer_Night) - Basically what happened is that the beer was 1/6th too cheap, and you could buy 6 at a time (for 72oz!) and there was effectively no limit to how many times you could go back for more. Long story short, people got drunk and it turned into a riot. The game was forfeited to the visiting team. I took a crack at the inflation between 1974 and 91/92, and its in the same ballpark - with a .60 cent beer from 1974 being about 1.66 in 91 according to https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ - for all your inflation needs.

This episode always reminds me of my employer. I work for a local convenience store chain and the owner bought a luxury suite at our local Minor League Baseball team, the Greenville Drive. He allows the employees to buy tickets for only $10 apiece and I have purchased the entire suite more than once and treated my family and friends to a fun night at the ballpark. Once you've sat in your own private box feeling like a benevolent dictator addressing his citizens it's hard to go back. Fun fact: prior to 2005, our local team played in Columbia, SC and were known as the Capital City Bombers.
