What A Cartoon! - The January 2020 Schedule
Added 2019-12-31 17:00:03 +0000 UTC
Welcome to another year of What A Cartoon! If you missed our big update, you should know we're changing things up a bit—but you'll still be getting a new podcast every week. That said, to kick off 2020 we'll be covering two shows completely new to What A Cartoon!, then jumping back to the amazing Batman: The Animated Series—the subject matter of the very first episode—as part of our plan to revisit series we've already covered at least once a month. To close out January, we'll be dropping an extra-long preview of this month's What A Cartoon Movie! into the feed—the perfect chance to get an even bigger bite of our super-size podcast series!
And if you're not a subscriber, signing up at the $5 level will get you each episode a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection of exclusive miniseries, and too many other exclusive podcasts to list here!
Here's what's on the schedule for January:
Psycho-Pass - "Crime Coefficient" [Patreon Date: 1/6/20 - Free Feed Date 1/13/20]
January starts off with a look at a recent anime series thanks to a request from one of our most generous patrons. If you've never heard of Psycho-Pass, then you've definitely missed out on one of the hidden anime gems of the last decade. It's a police procedural that mixes both Blade Runner and Minority Report into a delicious cocktail, and we'll be looking at the first episode to help break you into its world of moral ambiguity in the future police force.
Psycho-Pass is currently streaming on Funimation and Hulu.
Street Sharks - "Sharkbait" [Patreon Date: 1/13/20 - Free Feed Date 1/20/20]
We've been a little too classy here on What A Cartoon! so it's time we started rooting around in some exquisite trash. And things don't get much trashier than Street Sharks, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wannabe that hit just as the fad was ending—and one that didn't do much to advance the genre of "anthropomorphic creatures with baditude." For this episode, we'll be joined by the great Matt McMuscles, who will help walk us through the truly jawsome origins of these mythic heroes via the series' very first episode! (Dear lord, they made 40 of these.)
Street Sharks is currently available to watch on YouTube for free because it's Street Sharks.
Batman: The Animated Series - "Almost Got 'Im" [Patreon Date: 1/20/20 - Free Feed Date 1/27/20]
For our first second look at a series we've already covered on What A Cartoon!, it didn't take us very long to land on Batman: TAS. And to be honest, we could do 30 more episodes before we move past the "very great" ones and have to sort through the rest that are merely "great." But we did manage to pick a real crowd-pleaser that focuses on what Batman does best: villains. Join us for another classic Paul Dini-penned episode that's much lighter fare than the previous one we covered, Heart of Ice.
Batman: The Animated Series is currently available to stream on DC Universe.
An Extended Preview of January's What A Cartoon Movie! [Patreon Date: 1/27/20 - Free Feed Date 2/3/20]
Stick with us through January as we close out the month with a 45+ minute free preview of this month's episode of What A Cartoon Movie! (The subject matter of which is still TBA as of this writing.) If you've never heard us talk animated movies before, you'll love to hear a chunk of a larger discussion that often lasts for four hours or longer!
We've got quite a lineup of podcasts ahead of us, and that isn't even counting this month's episode of the What A Cartoon Movie! for $10+ patrons. Stick with us, because there'll be more fun to come, and even more great guests and surprises in 2020!
