I’m way way way too late in adding this, but the song Homer hums whole shaving isn’t an original composition - it’s Patricia by Pérez Prado. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvD9_o88nOo

This is the only podcast I spend money to listen to, so I feel like every choice Henry and Bob make is a reflection on the wisdom of my investment. And while I was initially skeptical about going back over old stuff (Season 1), I had a moment of clarity. While listening to the new "Simpsons Roasting" episode I happened to be browsing through old childhood photos and found one of 11 year old me standing in my bedroom doorway, the outside of my door guarded by a four-foot long poster of Bart Simpson warning everyone to "Stay outta my room, man!" I then realized how much that first season meant to me, and how it was completely foundational in turning me into the skewed adult I am today. I'm on board, B and H!

Where’s that Bart?

I came late to Talking Simpsons and never listened to the season 1 episodes, just listened to the original "Simpsons Roasting On an Open Fire" and man alive have you developed as a podcast.

I don't know why but the way the cashier (and I think he is also the announcer) at the dog race says 99 to 1 makes me laugh so much. I thought I heard laughing when he said it and I am curious as to why you laughed at that since I can't figure out why I find it funny.

Awesome revisit of the first episode, and I'm excited to return to the other 12 in 2020 :) I have to admit though I am one of those people who did not buy season one on DVD (though I only started buying MY OWN DVDs for Talking Simpsons since my brother was the one to get them and he had moved out a few years prior) so I have seen season one a number of times. For this episode, I had to revisit it on Disney+ with that shitty crop job, so I may look into getting season one if I can...

Great episode! One tiny correction, Mimi Pond still lives in LA with her husband Wayne White. She's a monster talent.

I’m almost finished but I guess I still don’t feel any strong need to revisit season 1. Clearly I’m in a minority here.

I actuallly love season one. It was the first DVD for a tv show I ever owned, and if DVDs could have been burnt out, it wouldn't have survived the winter I got it. During this time, season one wasnt really seen on TV, so it felt extra special that I had them on discs. Sure the animation is as it is, but it's charming and nostalgic to me. I can't wait for a full revisit of this underated season.

Re: Marge and Homer should have left after their son was taken off the stage. For what it’s worth parents are usually strongly encouraged to not leave these type of things when their own children’s part is done but to stay for the entire thing so that the other kids don’t feel bad about people leaving and / or the auditorium being near empty by the end.

With age I've grown to love Season 1, imperfections and all, and I'm happy you'll be revisiting it. There's a lot of charm in seeing the show evolve over these 13 ambitious episodes. I used to dread starting rewatches of the show because I HAD to start with Season 1 or it wouldn't be proper; but now it's fun, and I still catch new, little details to enjoy amidst the roughness.

You have said Eek the Cat twice now, once in this and once in Kidney Trouble. Reference it one more time and the ritual will be complete.
