Want to Hear Talking Simpsons Revisit Season One? Vote Now!

Hi everyone, we've got a special poll for all of you, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the debut of The Simpsons. By now you've seen we did a special episode for the holidays of returning to Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire to cover the episode anew. We got two of our favorite guests back for it, and we talked for four times as long as we did when we recorded it the first time five years ago.

After returning to season one for this week, we realized that Talking Simpsons Network has grown so much in the last almost five years. We've done so many interviews and research and refinement/expansion of the podcast with so many cool guests. We think that, on the occasion of this special anniversary that we'd like to start 2020 by doing new podcasts about the first 12 episodes of the series! Not only that, up to this point all our season one podcasts have been behind a paywall up until this point, so by redoing season one we can make it available on the free feed! (And don’t worry, the original podcasts about season one will still be available in our back catalogue.)

To be clear, Talking Simpsons would finish off the last two episodes of season 10, then put a pause on starting season 11 to podcast about Bart The Genius at the start of January. We'd then finish Season One Redux with Some Enchanted Evening sometime in March and then resume our normal schedule with season eleven.

We think it'll be a really awesome time for us as we all reflect on the first season's 30th anniversary, as well as a chance for many to experience season one for the first time in years if you're subscribing to Disney Plus or rediscovering the first year in another way.

But we want to hear from you guys first, so we set up this poll for listeners. We hope you're as excited as we are about doing this, but please let us know in the choices below.

To sum things up, if we revisit season one, you get:

Thanks as always for your support and we hope everyone has a happy holiday season!

Even though I missed out on the chance to vote, I am happy that the people voted yes.

BTW, was just re-listening to some old episodes (using the "oldest to newest" in the Patreon sorting), and right there in a late season 5 episode, Henry poses the idea of revisiting season 1 "when we get to season 10". Over two years ago. So no, kindly stuff the "you're revisionist" chatter. Having just burned through all the Season 1 TS episodes in a single weekend, I was astonished how short they were. I certainly encourage revisiting this important television in the current, more informed/researched format.

This encapsulates my thoughts really well, especially when it comes to What a Cartoon since I've often never encountered a show before the podcast, and occasionally dislike it once I have (or already do), yet the podcast is always a treat every week.

I'm absolutely all for this. You guys sound so much better professional as people and quality wise since the Patreon has started and it'd be amazing to hear Season 1 with this much podcasting experience. Also you guys sound way more excited for Season 1 again then Season 11 which I feel the same way haha

At first I was indifferent.. but then I remembered that I’ve had the season one episodes at the bottom of my queue for like.. 3 years, like I’ll listen to those eventually. And now I don’t have to!! Also, season 11 was the last season set I bought, and I was halfway through watching it when you announced this show back then, and I stopped watching it and went back to season 2, with you guys. It also gives me another 5 months to put off buying season 12. My point was I like this idea. Did that come across?

I'd much rather see you continue with more of Talking Futurama than retrending episodes that have previously been covered.

At first I was leaning towards you guys pushing ahead to Season 11, but with how much you want to revisit Season 1 I ended up voting yes. After all I'm going to listen anyway and you guys should work on something you know you'll enjoy! I'd still love to hear your thoughts on Season 11 onward of course. I think there's still some great episodes throughout the back half of the Mike Scully era/the early Al Jean return (even modern day, but the great ones are definitely rarer) Also, just going to throw out that as someone who started King of the Hill this year I need some more TalkKing of the Hill. So yeah, everyone better vote for that when the time comes :P

I rewatched the first season and didn't much care for it, but I would love to hear your analysis of "Krusty Gets Busted". I was surprised at how fully formed Sideshow Bob was as a character. So yeah I'm in. It's much nicer to think about the show finding its legs than losing its footing.

RE-DO! RE-DO! RE-DO!

Some extra thoughts: some people are arguing for/against season 1 or 11 based on the quality of episodes but like... if I were only interested in the episodes themselves, I would just watch them and stop there. To be honest, I'm not super into either season. But I listen to this podcast to learn about the history of people involved (writers, directors, guest stars), the discussions and anecdotes sparked by stuff in the episode, funny descriptions of scenes, and hearing people make each other laugh with their takes. When things in the episode don't work, the "why doesn't this work and how could it have been done better?" analysis is interesting. Personally I'm not someone who likes watching bad movies for fun, but I love We Hate Movies for the discussions they create. That's why I'm not worried about TS going into the weaker seasons of the show at all, and why I'm excited for a much more in-depth dissection of season 1.

Man that one drives me nuts because Mel Gibson is so trash but the movie jokes in that episode are so so good

Very much in favor of this, IMO the first season is far better than people tend to give it credit for and absolutely deserves a more in-depth analysis

I think I found this podcast when yo guys were finishing up season 3. After catching up, I signed up for the Patreon to specifically hear the season 1 episodes and was disappointed with their quality and brevity. I am definitely onboard with a season 1 redo for that reason. Plus it delays the Mel Gibson episode, which honestly should get the "Stark Raving Dad" treatment. That might be the first episode of Talking Simpsons I skip.

Anything to push back the onset of Talking Zombie Simpsons.
