2018-02-17 00:03:49 +0000 UTCI'd say between the three, I was won over by Chris' endorsement of Barney, but my pick for Springfield's Most Pathetic Man would have to be Hans Moleman. He's the show's go-to whenever it needs a character to be exploded, set on fire, have his brains drilled into by a doped-up Burns, or absorbed into a bouncing Prisoner orb. Like Barney, he apparently can't hold down a job, whether it's prison librarian, morning radio host, or Edgar Allen Poe birthplace mover – this is probably because he's a magnet for life-threatening violence. Hans was romantically spurned by (of all people) Selma, and unlike Barney, has no innate skills and no Moe in his life. His entire existence as a recurring character is one of Sisyphean torment and loneliness: no one's gay for Moleman.
