Not only is this one of the funniest episodes, but the first half of Springfield's greatest mystery is one of the densest, full of clues and red herrings. We suss it all out and explain our wonder at how great it still is in this extra-long podcast!

Lordy! I can't believe you missed the reference to TWO Bond films: 1) Goldfinger - when Burns opens the floor & activates the model of Springfield to reveal his Sun Blocker is an obvious reference to when Goldfinger reveals his plans to the mobsters. 2) The Sun Blocker itself is a reference to The Man With the Golden Gun where a giant solar panel reflector rises out of a mountain to gather the Sun's energy. Also (& this is a guess) when Smithers tells Burns to "Step back from the brink of insanity" that may be a reference to fitness guru Susan Powter whose 1993 books & videos were called "Stop The Insanity."
