This is one of my top 3 favourite episodes! But I'm commenting to say: I had to research Mrs. Pommelhorst for Simpsons Comics #194. There was a B-plot about Mrs. Pommelhorst being hard on Lisa during gym class, where it's revealed Pommelhorst was a bad gym student as a child. That's when I found out that in one episode of the TV show, she announced a leave of absence to undergo gender reassignment surgery and return as MR. Pommelhorst, the shop teacher. (I have no idea if the topic was handled sensitively -- it was just an excuse for them to bring in a new character to teach gym.) All of her later appearances show her as female, though, so the writers probably forgot about it.

2017-12-19 00:25:21 +0000 UTCAs a high school teacher who sees union and district battles every other year, this episode makes me wish all negotiations were handled with such humor and pettiness. Also The PTA meeting scene is part of my daily life. Anytime my wife asks why I didn't buy something I really wanted, i rub my fingers just like Skinner does...and while she may get mad every time I do it, it's ok, because in my head all I hear is "the taxes, I think he means the taxes!"
